Need some basing assistance

So I\'m getting the finishing touches done on my Bretonnian Lord conversion and with as much fun as I have been having with that I am dreading trying to figure out a base for it. He\'s from Quellenes and I want a base simple enough for him to be placed within my army for when I play (well, more like display him with his retinue of knights) but I want it to have a true feel for land of Quellenes. I\'ve been trying to look up images from france, but I\'m not finding anything that really inspires me :( If anyone is a super Bretonnian dork, could you perhaps just describe some of the landscape of Quellenes? Thanks ahead of time for the help!

Quenelles corresponds to the whereabouts of the city of Lyon in France (quenelle is actually a traditionnal meal of the town :p).

Lyon, or Lugdunum as it was known at the time of the Gaules, was their capital.

The old town area still has a galo-romain amphitheather, and medieval streets, churches, and even a cathedral. Two rivers go through the town and so there are many old bridges.

If you go out of the city that it is today, it\'s mostly hilly, with some forests, grape viniards, and to the east the Alps.

But if you want to be more on pair with GW\'s fluff, you might want to evoke the nearby wood-elf forest with some leaves, or magic stones.

This is what I did for my enchanteress (also based on Quenelles ;)) :

@ Green Stuff: Thank you! I\'d read a Warhammer book about a knight who was taken in the Wood Elves realm so I\'d like to have some allusion to the fact that he\'s in Quellenes on the base (just incase all the unicorn heraldry won\'t be enough). I feel a brainstorm coming on... thank you guys! Ya\'ll rock!

Forgot to mention, I plan on entering this in a US GD, so I\'m sticking with the original Valten, the Exalted base it came with.

Good, it\'s larger, so you\'ll be able to develop the theme a bit more.

For magic stones, you might want to try plaster of Paris. It\'s a bit brittle, but easy to work with. A few examples :

hmm, a knight on a quest in a woodelf realm. I\'d say you need fallen leaves like this one

Or some of those wood spirits, which are in some of the woodelf boxes (within the dryad box?), who watch the knight from some bushes and trees

Some stone with carved runes, marking the borders of the woodelf realm

bones which a trapped in thorn ranks
just my spontaneous ideas

i\'d try a base made out off grass, lush green grass, slightly sloping downwards from the back, with a rock, bringing the mini itself above the ground, and back to horizontal.

Grass would fit nicely with the french feel, as would the rock, which will also focus attention on the mini. the added height will make it really stand out.
