Need Primer Recommendations

I have always sworn by Citadel primer. I hated the price tag, but I liked that it was thin, covered well, and dried quickly.

A can of white Citadel primer, that I had used literally for 30 - 45 seconds, ran completely out of propellant. It is chock full of paint, as the weight attests, but there is absolutely NO propellant.

I know GW is far too high and mighty to have any sort of defective product return policy, so I will no longer piss away $8 on their product(s).

So, I\'m looking for good recommendations on white and black primers.

Thanks in advance!

I would take it back. You might be surprised. It will be obviousely defective if its full with no propellant left.
Ive got loads of priming out of the same can of Citadel white and it still feels full.

The Tamiya is supposed to be good but its pricey over here.

Granddad!
Actually...

...GW has a \'no quibble\' returns policy on defective stock, take it straight back & get a new one!

If you really don\'t want to go back to GW tho, Vallejo do fast-drying Spray undercoats in black & white in 400ml cans they spray finer than GW cans, dry quicker, & IMHO cover better
Only problem, I wouldn\'t know where you\'d get them from in the US

Now we have a double problem. There are no GW stores in Florida, hence I can only return it to the LGS from which I bought it. I\'ve been friends with the guy a long time, so I\'ll give it a shot.

Problem #2 - he doesn\'t carry ANY Vallejo stuff, since not many people that frequent the shop are serious painters. The bread and butter of this shop is comics and LAN gaming, but it\'s the only game in town. And none of the hobby or railroad shops carry any GW or Vallejo stuff, either.

I don\'t even consider myself a \"serious\" painter yet, and I think all the other guys from the old days who were moved away. I was hoping there was a $2 hardware store variety that worked nicely, but apparently not.

I\'m getting tired of paying GW exorbitant prices for sub-par product, though, to be honest. :(

I\'m not sure where you are in Florida, but contact Airhead and Tab Studio.
They might be able to point you in the right directions. (Literally)

I liked Rustoleum.. but I can\'t seem to find black as a Primer.. I\'ve been using their ultraflat black and so far no melting plastic.. Only I find it more \"velvety\" looking than black paint.. Oh, well.. I usually get them at Walmart/Home Depot for around less than $4.
Hope this helps!

am I the only one who prefers brush on primer? I only use Reaper white brush on. No propellant issues, no humidity issues, no over priming, just a lot more control with that step in the process. I\'ve also found it gives me a good preview of all the little details I may have missed, basically a first once over of the mini with my brush before I hit it with paint.

Well, I think since I have scores of Ork Boyz to spare, I\'ll take 3 or 4 and try out several different cans of \"non-hobby\" primer or paint. Personally, I\'ve always preferred primer, even in Ace Hardware, etc. brand.

And I\'m in Melbourne, about 60 miles SE of Orlando. The LGS I go to is the only one in the entire County. I\'d have to go to Sci-Fi City in Orlando to find another one.

This will be of absolutely no value to anyone outside the UK, but I bought a tin of \'Multi-Surface Enamel Grey Primer\' from Wilko\'s yesterday. £2.70/400ml and it is bloody great! They do white and black too. Gonna go get some tomorrow, although I can see me using grey from now on :)

I used grey primer for quite awhile in my younger days (late-90s) for a lot of Fantasy and 40K models. I can\'t say the 40K models turned out so hot, but I was really happy with the Dwarves that I primed grey...I still have two or three of them, I\'ll try to post up some shots.
