Need Penitent Engine Ideas

I want to make a conversion on the Penitent Engine and I\'m taking any ideas. I\'m considering competing with this peice, so the GW Gameday rules need to be considered.

Any cool ideas on what a Penitant Engine needs?

The idea I like is to model the moment of creation of the Penitent with the machine on it\'s knees in agony as the Penitent awakens to it\'s new existance. However, it isn\'t really a gaming pose. It sounds more like a display peice. Opinions? Would that matter?

I can also see a pose charging down some stairs.

Either way, I\'m probably looking at fabricating leg parts to change the stance.

What about other upgrades? How close to the playable army rules do you have to stay for competion? The army list calls for twin flamers and two close combat weapons.

I agree that a kneeling pose (and the running down-stairs pose) do sound more like diorama poses rather than gaming ones.

I have an idea: why not have it running full pelt? Not just the stompy step of the original model, but charging like a bahargey person, arms outstretched?

The only problem I see with that is that outstretched arms could be a damage risk; they could come off easily.

How good are you at converting models? Much experience?

I guess I\'ll go with a more Gaming pose, but I don\'t like the look of the machines \'running\' like humans, they\'re still machines and chunky clunky looking ones at that.

I\'m thinking about replacing the twin spinners with a claw like the ork mega-armor and maybe a better looking spinner. Then I\'d add some nasty looking flamers on the arms or the shoulders.

I\'m also thinking about adding some armor. Not for the Penitent, who\'s supposed to die in the fighting, but for the Engine itself, which is ANCIENT and VENERATED and VALUABLE. These things are supposed to wade into messy combat where machinery can be damaged.

I\'m thinking about some gothic looking plates around the engine, the arms, the legs. Like mounted shields on posts standing slightly away from the mechanisms and folded around the two adjacent sides. These would be a great opportunity to make a fancier peice for competition.

Maybe a better ensignia sticking up the top too.
