I\'ve never played Blood Bowl before but have just bought my mate it for his birthday.

I\'m trying to decide on what team to go for, I like the look of the Skaven models but are they any good?

Any advice or recomendations would be welcome :)

All teams have their good and bad points.

The skaven are fast but quite lightly armoured and so can take a bit of a beating, if you can catch them.
Orks are not particularly skilled but are tough and will take and hand out a fair bit of punishment.
Humans are generally the middle ground
Dark / Elves are fast and agile, also lightly armoured but are expensive in points so you don\'t get many team members for your opening squad.
Goblins are fast but not agile nor well armoured... but they are cheap as chips so you get a lot for your starting team.
Undead are not well skilled or agile but are damn hard to kill so what you pick for your opening squad is likely to stay in the squad for a long time picking up new skills and such. Allowing you to spend your funds on star players or the more expensive team members.
Dwarfs are slow but fairly well skilled and tough.

Your choice of team really comes down to personal choice and whether you will be playing one off games or a longer campaign/league. Undead are not too good for one off games for the reasons above, but over time they become a force to be reckoned with. Goblin teams can be beaten down quite quickly but then they can be fun to play.
Humans and orks are probably the best for one off games - after all that is what comes in the box:)

Thanks, thats helped quite a lot.

I think we\'ll generally be playing one off games, but may try some sort of championship (Won\'t be very long as there\'s only 4 of us,lol)

I guess best thing to do, is to try some games with whats in the box and see how I like to play, then pick a team to suit my style.

Is it easier to bash everyone, or just run for it? Or are they same diffculty just different ways of doing it?

If you are playing for fun then pick the team you like the look of best. You can play any team in any style although for instance dwarves wont run as as fast as skaven. Both styles are just as easy as each other although I find getting stuck in long drawn out brawls in the middle of the pitch boring

All rounders:

Adaptable and easy to use, dont excel in any particular area but are always fun (I find)

*Humans
*Undead (my faves at present)

Fast teams:

Great fun if you want to score touchdowns and pull of stylish 2 turners.

*skaven
*all elves (also skilled see high elves)

Bashing teams:

Get stuck on the line and pummel your opponent, dont expect much scoring unless you play in a league where these guys ruin the other teams.

*Dwarves
*Orcs
*Norse

Specialist teams:

These guys have a set of rules that allow you to pull off set piece scores, they are more difficult to use.

*Ogres
*Vampires
*Halflings

Hope that helps, BB is a great game you will most likely end up with a few teams :p

I\'ll be one of the said 4 playing this with Gapow. i expect i\'ll be using undead as it\'s \'my kind of thing\'.

How long do games typically last?

Did they not make all of the special characters, or are some just OOP?

I was trying to find a model for skitter stab-stab for the skaven but can\'t find a model, was thinking of using death master snikch from WFB

As far as I am aware all the star palyers were made for the second ed Blood Bowlgame. I have seen that the GW website does not list them all so some are oop. You might still be able to find them on Ebay or else put out a request on here. But to be honest unless you plan on playing in an official tourney you can use any other suitable models; such as Snikch to represent the players that are oop.

Just thought i\'d post on here to let you know how i got on in my first game. First and most importantly it was immense fun! Had some awesome moments where there was utter carnage on the field and some other comedy moments.

Main part was when the ball was loose near my thrower. Pete moved his orc blitzer in to pick it up and failed bouncing the ball to my thrower, who also failed and bounced it to the square next to the both of them. We both fumbled around for the ball a couple of turns (bad dice rolls) whilst everyone else kicked the shite out of each other - eventually i picked it up after Pete fell over, and tossed it to my catcher who legged it down the wing to score....good times!

This prompted him to punch my players repeatedly in the balls until three went unconscious and a blitzer died from the nut pummeling...bad times.

Any time i ever kicked the ball to Pete\'s orcs he\'d inevitably score as the ball always bounced out of bounds on kick off (loaded dice) and his player would collect > throw > catch and send in the mob.

I got trounced 3 - 1 and decided the Humans are definitely not for me, i won\'t be playing with them again (espcially you Mr Blitzer with the play-doh testicles)

Orcs are solid to injure (past knocking them over) due to their armour - and it was getting frustrating to say the least.

Still, looking forward to the next game!

I got pretty bored with my humans as well. The only fun I had was with Blitzers and my Ogre, who I picked up pretty much immediately in the season and sadly lost due to getting repeatedly kicked in the nuts in one of my last games (also by Orcs).

The Throwers and Catchers aren\'t as fast/skilled as Elves, and they can\'t take a hit. So pretty useless.

Well I went for Skaven in the end, had a couple of games against Bullit, won one and lost one. he has been playing the PC game though and has picked up useful tactics, I gotta learn how to defend better!

I need to read that \'The art of blocking tutorial\' thoroughly before our next match

Hey there.
Glad to see a new blood bowler taking to the pitch.
Orks are the toughest team in Blood Bowl now two ways about it. They hit and hang in there like a chaos team and play ball control as well as a human team.
The Skaven are soft, no two ways about it. That said, if you can learn how to keep a few skaven out of tackle zones at all times you can always win. The speed of the skaven team means they are very forgiving to play. You will need your storm vermin and 2 throwers is a must. Coin for Coin the skaven thrower is one of the best/most underrated players in Blood Bowl. I\'ve played Skaven for about 15 years off and on. They are great fun and teach you the value of how to best move your pieces in the game. Really focus on keeping yourself mobile. Don\'t let the Skaven get bogged down in a fist fight, they won\'t win. Also, remember your opponent can only foul (hit on the ground) once per turn... so sometimes it\'s better to just stay down.

Good luck and enjoy the mayhem.

P.S. allot 2 hours for a game of blood bowl. Also 4 people is enough to play a small league... that\'s where Blood Bowl really shines.

Enjoy :D

I\'ve got two throwers and a Rat Ogre, which only left me enough points for two re-rolls and no reinforcements (which sucks when you get a beating) I\'ve found the rat Ogre invaluable at making a hole for my gutter runners to slip through. I\'m also playing with 3 gutter runners, as thats what came in the set, I figured they\'re better than linemen, even though they\'re weaker.

I\'m thinking of doing a WIP, as I\'ve nearly got something painted and think I\'ll get these finished before anything else.

My skaven team is a bit odd. I don\'t remember why, but i have odd numbers of figs. I very well might have picked up only blisters and shared a few with friends and the team lists must have changed

1 Thrower
3 Stormvermin
1 Skull Splitter
1 Rat Ogre.. i think WHFB
1 Rat Ogre with an extra arm and cool sculpt.. i think another WHFB but a character model
6 or 7 linemen
1 long leg mutant
1 Hakflem (2 headed star)
1 Chaos Lord for a head coach (seemed to have lost his tail)
2 other character models. One is a grey seer and another unidentified character model with a pole arm and a exoskeleton on his left arm.
5 rats on a big base for cheerleaders

I also own Norse and High elf and am painting some goblins and a bunch of plastic orcs and humans i got with a used set. I moved, but back with my friends, they have chaos dwarves, undead.. possibly 2 teams, humans and i think a vampire team.

I picked up the PC game and i\'m having a lot of fun with Chaos. Mutations + agil = awesome.

A little update from me, i ended up choosing the Pro Elf team - purely based on looks (love the facemasks and mohawks).

Been doing far too many test colour schemes where it\'s no longer funny. Think i\'ve finally settled on an \'Altair\' of Assasins Creed style with mainly white, mixed with touches of red and a bit of brown leather. I\'m also adding patterns of colour in to the hair - purple/white/red/blue (not mixed) streaks for some colour variance.

I also got a Vampire team for my birthday which are still boxed....tempted to start on them but want my elf team finished before i progress (and then my Delaque gang for Necromunda lol).
