Need help deciding on vehicle base color

Alrighty, so it will soon be my first time painting a vehicle for a veeery long time, I've read up on some great weathering techniques in "Imperial Armour Modeling Masterclass".

I'm thinkin' of using the method of painting the vehicle one color, then covering it with hairspray, then paint the colors I want over, so I then can scrape off some of the color to reveal the pre-lack color below, now I'm painting a GW Space Wolves Vindicator so it will follow my SW scheme (seen here: http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y27/SWE_BadAss/Space Wolves WIP/IMG_4828.jpg | http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y27/SWE_BadAss/Space Wolves WIP/SpaceWolvesWIP7027.jpg )

What I'm asking if what color used for the base layer would be appropriate, in the IA: Modeling Masterclass they use a yellow for a green-grey tank, I'm not sure it will look well with the brown/grey I use for my Wolves, what do you guys think?

If you want the vehicle to be grey then a dark brown works well as a revealed colour. This is often used to represent oxidised metal that's showing through chips and other wear.

pick up some Fine Scale Modeler magazines.

(lots of good free how to's and tips there.)

In the articles section here, there is a notched sword article - apply that on a slighly large scale.

Some of the 'bare material' depends on the fluff.. are the tanks based on metal (steel) plate armor? or is it some sort of ceramic alloy?
(will it rust? or is it just kinda off white?)

well, it would be standard issue admantium armour seeing as it's space marines getting this one :p

so I have no clue (fluffwise) what base color it'd have..
Will check the link out, thanks

Just a thought, you could use Vallejo air's rust as the under coat colour,it would work well as a primer colour too, I guess, just paint some on, slap some masking fluid over it, paint as normal and pick it off.

I've never used Vallejo paints (only citadel) so I'm not familiar with the range, but a firend of mine uses citadel, P3, Tamiya and Vallejo so hopefully he'll have some knowlage of the color suggested ^^,
