Need help choosing BRANDS of paint.

I have been painting for some time (~2 years) but never questioned what paint to use, since I lived close to a shop. Now that I moved to the gaming Chaos Wastes (Naples, FL) and I\'m running out of paint, I would like to know which paint brand is best.

I actually use some Citadel (GamesWorshop) and some Vallejo Game Color. I love the way Vallejo paints and the dropper style of delivery. I know other brands are out there (P3, Reaper-Pro) but I have no idea what to get.

Can someone please go over the different paints they use, prices, experiences, etc? Also... does anyone know of a newbie guide for this that I can go and read?

I mostly paint Warhammer 40k models. Thanks! :)

here is a good little thing i found around here somewhere.

http://home.att.net/~katamaran/vallejo.html

also there are many of good paints that are good enough that can be found at wal-mart for cheaper prices and larger quantities.

Delta - Ceramcoat
Plaid - Apple Barrel

any old water based acryllic should work.

some people even use other paints that can be found in ye olde craft or art store areas. like oils and other normal painting paints... like those for use on canvas.

i like 59 ml @ 88 cents better than the GW price of $3 for 12ml

you get 5 times as much paint for one third the price.

just remember to test it and thin it down a bit. (apple barrel)

Future floor wax is a good flow medium for thinning with. has a bit of shine in the end result since it is semi-gloss, but protects while you paint so only a dullcote or matte finish should be needed once you are done.

but thats just my opinon...

I use some citadel metalics but htats about all I\'ve used of theirs I like the paint but after workin with dropper botles it\'s annoying having to spoon it out. I have a nice big selection of reaper master series and have been very happy with them, they come in dropper bottles and are set up in triads a shadow base and highlight that are set up to work together, it\'s nice when in a bit of a lazy mood. But all in all the best advice I\'ve heard on paints is get a few of each line see how they jive with your style and go from there. Also if they are for gaming vallejo game color is a nice hard finish and their colors are meant to mirror GW\'s line.
