I really want to attempt white armor for a stark contrast and its going on in stupidly thin coats but i want to make sure i dont fudge it up (please excuse the sloppiness in the hood area) . Anywho any tips to maikng a smooth white finish would be aprreciated and also any shading tips as you can see i shaded with a lightend codex grey but not sure its right.

The robes are alot more shaded then the camera will allow me to capture (any tips on photgraphing dark purples would be appreciated as well)

Anywho its my 3rd mini so please bear with my newishness=D

thanks

The only suggestion I have for painting white is to just water the paint down and put on a load of layers. It takes a while but it\'s the only way I\'ve found. Damm apothecaries :)

Just start from a different colour-I\'d say that ultramarine blue shouls do as base-then just highlight it till you get to pure white (water it a bit to make it smoother)-this shoul give the armour more volume and the shades it needs.

Don\'t listen to him. If you start with UM blue you\'ll never get to white.
Start with a white primer. Paint a layer or 2 of white. Paint 1/3 to 1/2 closest to the shadow in the color you want to shade. I find for blue whites that SpaceWolf gray is good.
Then work your way back up to white over most of that.
You can darkline with the gray with some blue ink mixed in.

I\'m not the best, but I think I did a pretty good job of white armor here:

I agree with Vincegamer and have to say that Sanitarium is incorrect in his/her assumption that Ultramarine Blue would work as an initial colour from which to work. The blue would not be easily covered and would \"bleed\" through the covering layers.

Thin coats of white with an occasional wash into the creases of a 50/50 mix Shadow grey/Spacewolves grey will give a soft blue/grey shadow tone.
An alternative is to consider using Bleached Bone as the base colour and work up to pure Skull White by mixing into the Bleached Bone.
