Been away from painting for a little while, despite my best intentions to get back in the saddle.

Thought i would share a newly started necron lord for feedback.

welcome back bud and nice lookin start on the lord, I like the nmm thus far gives a nice touch to the ol necro unfortunatly I\'m clueless on nmm technique so can\'t give any pointers. I will say that the contrast is quite nice I like how smooth the extreme shado to highlight transitions.

look forward to seein more

I think it looks great so far! Very smooth and well contrasted.

As for the NMM-aspect of it. one thing you can try is highlighting it less like you would normally do to other surfaces. Contrast is one part but to give it the illusion of a metallic surface you can try using a little ground reflection to. the best part is his left hand IMO. And if you added another faint highlight facing ground it would look even better.

It helps a bit to think in terms of highlighting a gem. Just replace the concept of small specs of light with the sharp highlights you\'ve already made. you can of course add small specks of light too (like Razza) but don\'t make them too much like points as that would look like a polished surface rather then metal.

Hope anything helps.

Cheers for the comments.

Time is precious atm so painting is a little \'intermittent\' but i shall take comments on board.

This is really a tester piece to work my rusty hands off, need to get back into the saddle.

Oh to be a kid again, when i could spend long hours painting without hassles of work and such :(

I\'ve managed to get a hold of some old computer motherboard fragments, i am thinking that the electrical channels would make a good base, although i am open to ideas of how best to base him.

Front not yet started.

Looks really neat! You don\'t usually see so much black with NMM but it\'s surely a cool change of pace. I really dig the spine  Should be interesting to see what you do with that cloth lol

Is there some Coal Black (black + turquoise P3 color if you don\'t know it) on the staff?

Thats a nice model, what is it?

The skin blending is nice and smooth, but perhaps add in a little more contrast. An maybe glaze some extra colours in there, some purples and greens in to the shadows. Get a little more visual interest.

Love the tattoos.

The sculpt itself is garbage in places. Its a GW feral Uruk-hai. I wanted to paint something from the LOTR range as a lot of painters tend to dismiss the more mundane \'troop\' miniatures in favour of the character models.

Thanks for the tips, i was looking to spruce the skin up.

oh, and the tattoo was a pita.

Thanks for the feedback. After some thought i think i might go down the line of some subtle OSL given my plans for the base. Ideally i\'d like the reflections to come off the armour.

once that is done i think i\'ll take another look at the glazes, i\'m particularly likgin the purple idea.
