My Vision of the Empire Warrior Priest

After taking a break for a few months I am finally getting back to doing some painting. What better way than with the new GW Empire Warrior Priest. I chose the mini with the dual hammers since it was all one piece. I will probably wind up painting the other two somewhere down the line, but I wanted to start with this one. Below are two pics of the armor.

What I am looking for some feedback on the shading of armor and what more needs to be done with the hammers.

Armor:

Base: Chaos Black + Boltgun Metal 1:1
1st Shade: Chaos Black + Bolgun Metal 3:1
1st Highlight: Boltgun Metal
2nd Shade: Chaos Black + Boltgun Metal 3:1
2nd Highlight: Boltgun Metal + Chainmail 1:1
3rd Shade: Scorched Brown + Boltgun Metal 2:1
3rd Highlight: Chainmail
4th Shade: Scorched Brown + Boltgun Metal 2:1
4th Hightlight: Chainmail + Mithril Silver 1:1
5th Shade: Scorched Brown + Mithril Silver 2:1

Hammers:

Same base and mix of hightlights as above. No shading done yet.

The left shoulder gaurds are going to be leather rather than metal. Since the two are different on the model, I decided to make them two different materials. I am going to try weathering everything on the mini more than I usally do. I just think that this mini has so much character that I need to add the weathering.

Thanks in advance for the input, and sorry for the semi-long post.

Here is an update:

Empire_Warrior_Priest3.jpg

Empire_Warrior_Priest4.jpg

I attempted to follow the Unshaved Beard article by frenchkid, but I guess I applied the initial Codex Grey layer on a bit thick. So, I opted to just add the beard and balding head (plus eyebrows) rather than the unshaved beard.

The robes were a darker shade of green, but I did not have complementary colors and the shading was way off. I found an article on the vallejo sight and decided to go with USA Uniform, Black Green and Lemon Yellow for the robes. Once I am done with the hammers I will weather the robes.

As always comments/criticism are always welcome.

Here are the latest pics of my Empire Warrior Priest:

From the front:

From the back:

The pic from the back gives a better idea of the skin tone. For some reason (my horrible photography skills), the front is so much darker than the back. Will have to work on that.

I am about done. Still need to touch up a few places. I plan on adding some weathering to the robe in the way of dried mud to bottom. Any other ideas about what really needs to be done would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for looking,

Richard

The white balance between the two pictures is incredibly varied. It looks like you used totally different camera settings or lamps for the two images... what photo editing software do you use?

I think your rock shouldn\'t be inclined like that because the things that are attached to his belt (both front and back) then don\'t have the right orientation.

His skin could use more contrast. The yellows seem too dominant.

You might also want to add some brown at the base of the rock to simulate dirt. It\'ll add variation to the moss and a better transition between the earth and the moss.

Other than that, it\'s pretty good :).

I\'m with GS on the rock but I think it could be partly solved simply rotating him through 180 on the base. In stead of squinting into the sky (is it a bird? is it a wyvern?) he would be starting forward in a menacing fasion. His belt hangers would also be inclined the right way

@Jericho : I use Adobe Photoshop Elements 4. I am still trying to learn how to use the program with my HP Photosmart 735 camera. I have looked over some of the photography articles on this site and will try some of the techniques found in them.

@greenstuff : Unfortunately, the rock on the base is fixed in place now. However, as Undave suggested, I can rotate the mini on the base. The mini looks better when rotated, and I was thinking of adding a goblin shield to the rock to try and even things out. I will add some brown to the rock for dirt simulation, probably this evening. I think the skin being so yellow is due to the picture. His head, in particular has a bit of grey in it due to my trying to do an unshaved beard/hair technique that laid it on way to thick. I went back over with flesh, but kept the grey in back and sides to simulate that he is balding.

Thanks to all for the advice.
