My Sweet Moki Dog Is Gone.

Hi all,
I just needed to share with someone my grief.
My sweet puppy had to be put to sleep today. For those who have never seen him in the PYP thread, Moki was a beautiful red Doxi, he was with us for just under 12 years. About 4 years ago he broke two vertibrea in is back, Moki spent about 6 months in a doggy wheel chair, we did months of physical therapy. And almost a year after his accident, he could walk again.

Because of the accident he has suffered some health problems usually seen in older dogs, and today when we took him to the vet. she told us that the only hope was more surgery, and that he probably would not survive. The other option, was to do nothing and watch my little guy slowly stangle to death because of the growth on his neck. The last option was to take him away from his suffering. Moki was put to sleep today at 3:00 this afternoon.

Moki was the best dog I have ever had, I use to joke that he was my son (I only have daughters)

I am going to miss him so very much.

Thank you for letting me share just a bit of my little guy with you all.

Ginny

Gin:
I\'m so sorry.
Losing a dog or cat is losing someone you\'ve shared a great deal of life with.

You put a lot of care into helping him. I know how hard this was to do and how heart wrenching it is, but letting animals silently suffer and struggle would be far worse for you all.

You will never be able to replace the friend that Moki was, but perhaps in time you may find it a consolation to bring another dog into your family. It did help Fran and I when we went through what you and your family are feeling.

Love to you all.

So sorry to hear this. You have our hearfelt sympathy. Dawn and I will be facing a similar decision with our dog all too soon I fear and I can certainly understand your pain.

Awww....made me cry :( We lost one of our cats last November, so its all too easy for me to identify with your loss.

Unfortunately, they can\'t tell us its ok or what they\'d like us to do and we have to make all the decisions. Rest assured you made the right one, just like we had to. Although it breaks your heart, its the kindest thing to do *hug* :~(

Gin, I\'m so sorry for your loss!

Remember the good times, and know that you did much more than many would have come the hard times. Sounds to me like Moki was a very lucky pup to have ended up with y\'all, and that y\'all were lucky to have him around.

Of course this makes my miss my dox from when I was a kid, we were not lucky enough to be home when she managed to break her back. :(

:( sorry about the loss of your puppy.......no matter how old dogs get, they\'re still puppies to us who love them.

I\'m sorry to hear that. It\'s so terribly sad when we lose a pet, non-pet-owners sometimes don\'t understand that they are people to us. It sounds like you did all you could to give him a good life though.

Shit!

I share your pain.:)

My dog Winnie (the pooh) was put to sleep two years ago following a number of major operations for cancer which, in the end, defeated even her.

I now have another Bull Terrier, Spike, and he is wonderful too, in fact I sometimes have difficulty separating them out in my memory...exactly which BT chewed up what expensive item???

Take care Gin....:)

It\'s actually the inevitable result of trying to take a photo of an attention seeking dog and a shy wife...;)

Had to put down \'Bootsie\' the cat a few years back. That cat was ANCIENT. I cried.

Sorry for your loss. Them little critters have a habit of getting into your heart.:(

Gin, first, you did the right thing. Rest easy knowing that you have eased his pain and not allowed him to suffer. There has to be a special place in heaven for all our beloved pets.

An old song says, why do they have to die of old age when they only get to live such a short time?

Each time I say I won\'t get that attached to another dog, but I have one playing fetch with me as I type this. No other dog can replace this one, but you can love another one just as much.

My own doggy is behind me right now, sleeping. That\'s something she does a lot of these days. Her nose is going grey, and she is exhausted after even shorter walks. But she\'s never grown up, and never will.

I hate replying to topics like this, but it always makes me appreciate my puppy more. When I\'m done typing here, she\'s going to be getting a cuddle.

I\'m sorry that you had to find the courage that you did, Ginny, but one day, I hope that I will find the same courage in me. Cry it all out, Ginny, they\'re worthy and deserving of our tears.
