when im not slaving on models.. im out re-enacting great battles and living history. this mainly includes getting pissed in the evanings and getting dressed up in the day telling publick how people lived and re-enacting huge historic battles. my group does 15thc stuff mainly the war of the rose\'s and some of the 100 year war.
so when i was on my easter break, i went and worked in an armoury for a week and kitted my self out with a new helmet (lid- proffessional term) and bevor.
this perticular lid is a german jaw bone sallet, the sallet was the most common helmet in the 15thc. the tail is to protect the neck and the visor is for the face (oviously) btw, visability is shyte. the bevor is simaler to a gorget but is not closed, this one has a drop-down motion to it were the top half falls letting easy access to the mouth (for drinking). the word bevor comes from the ye olde french word bevoir, which means to dribble. so here are some silly pics of me poseing like a muppet.
first the armoury
thats duncan on the left and martin on the right, they showed me the skills i needed to make my helmet.
now my lid...
i know what your thinking, its black/blue???, this is more authentic as armour in the 15thc was left forge finnished, they never bothered polishing it up as that took a minimum of a months extra work, if you look at 15thc art of battles armour is pourtraid as black. i infact polished it then blued it in the blazing harth.
now a pic of me looking filthy with a plannishing hammer...
and finnaly my chainmail shirt i made...
sorry about the pose...
any comments welcome.. expesialy from other re-enactors...
