when im not slaving on models.. im out re-enacting great battles and living history. this mainly includes getting pissed in the evanings and getting dressed up in the day telling publick how people lived and re-enacting huge historic battles. my group does 15thc stuff mainly the war of the rose\'s and some of the 100 year war.

so when i was on my easter break, i went and worked in an armoury for a week and kitted my self out with a new helmet (lid- proffessional term) and bevor.

this perticular lid is a german jaw bone sallet, the sallet was the most common helmet in the 15thc. the tail is to protect the neck and the visor is for the face (oviously) btw, visability is shyte. the bevor is simaler to a gorget but is not closed, this one has a drop-down motion to it were the top half falls letting easy access to the mouth (for drinking). the word bevor comes from the ye olde french word bevoir, which means to dribble. so here are some silly pics of me poseing like a muppet.
first the armoury

thats duncan on the left and martin on the right, they showed me the skills i needed to make my helmet.

now my lid...

i know what your thinking, its black/blue???, this is more authentic as armour in the 15thc was left forge finnished, they never bothered polishing it up as that took a minimum of a months extra work, if you look at 15thc art of battles armour is pourtraid as black. i infact polished it then blued it in the blazing harth:D.

now a pic of me looking filthy with a plannishing hammer...

and finnaly my chainmail shirt i made...

sorry about the pose...

any comments welcome.. expesialy from other re-enactors...

looking good.. nice Euro 4-1 pattern chainmaille.... if you want a REAL accurate shirt.... overlap the rings (dont butt the ring ends together overlap them) pound em flat drill a hole put in a rivet! also the bottom i think should be closed and the armpits need finishing ;) how long did it tak you? i ask because i know i did a sheet 12 inches x 12 inches in about an hour...(ask if you wanna see a few of the patterns i tried) the helmet i have no clue about (as i dont do this era altho i plan on making a templar uniform) reminds me of something off bloodbowl! lol

as you probaly know i do WW1 and WW2 enacting.. some of the best parts i feel of the hobby is teaching the public.

depends what you want to re enact... mideval stuff its fairly costly to get going WW1 is quite pricey 1812 not sure parolly cheaper then WW1 WW2 isnt too bad unless you wanna play as a german in wich case watch out! (same as WW1)

@ wolf fang: took me a couple of days, now has full length sleves! an i left the gap in the arm pit to allow for movement, dont work without it.
as to the riviting... you had to be REALY rich in the 15thc to have it, im just an armourer, a simle yeoman, riveted mail was comman in the 16thc and only towards the sencond half.... im making my self a brigendine and some archer pattern legs.. hope to get some pics up....

i did an event on st georges day at morely, there was a ww2 skirmish, really enjoyed it, didnt know you had so many pyrotechnics lol, we just have big ass cannons....

i wanna take part display at an airshow this summer. was great fun last year! germans had a cublewage and a truck with an AA post the americans roll in with a small tank and infantry and over take the position as 2 P47 strafe the germans being chased by and ME 109... after wich we did a flame thrower display! and its not like they were flying high they were flying low enough where if it was an actual battle small arms fire would have wreked havoc on them... you could see the pilots in them they were so low was great fun!

Why? So you can walk around all day getting over heated, be unable to sit down properly and not be able to get close to Queues or Cabinets?
Trust me on this one, and save your effort for Exams and painting minis to enter Golden Deamon :)

God I love that helmet! I\'ve always been a fan of blacksmithing, and the ones that are able to make stuff like this and swords, I bow down before you!

This is actually great for painting as well, as you can see how to highlight properly... more pics! (wear a full plate suit for us!)
