Hi, I been reading articles and looking at minis on here for a while. Got myself a digi-cam yesterday (Canon Powershot A550) so im going to post some of my stuff.

I havn\'t painted for ages so im just getting back into it. Im doing Tzeench army stuff as I already have an Ahriman from my younger days and I just like Thousand Sons too. I was never too good at blending / highlighting and so comments or suggestions welcomed on how I can improve there. I wont be trying any NMM / OSL yet. I need to get the basics down first.

This is my first set of photos with a new cam too so photography suggestions welcome as well.

Onto the pics. Its 1 of a thousand sons tactical squad which i don\'t really mind messing up to much and is mainly a practice piece. I have a converted standard bearer and a converted demon prince to move onto once im happy with this guy.

So far points I would probly make after looking at the pictures. Probably more of a todo list really.

1. I need to sort focus on pictures a bit.
2. I need to hold my desk lamp in a better angle for the shadows.
3. Finish boltgun metal bits on backpack. (Dont know why ive only done one side, derrrrr)
4. Patch up the head blue/yellow bit. have lots of yellow leakage onto the blue.
5. Need to do highlighting (Just been playing with blending the blues really, not proper highlights so that needs sorting.)
6. Pick out more details, (Skulls, Eyes, Symbols, Backpack Vents)

When I did this I was using a v.old GW detail brush of which is now going in the bin. Replaced by some nice vallejo sables 3/0 and a 5/0. Hopefully I wont be doing \"as much\" touching up the future. (I still have to compensate for wobbly hand syndrome).

UPDATE

Ive taken some pics of the other models I mentioned. The demon prince in its current state is not actually my work. It was an unfinished project by my friend so hopefully I will do the model justice when its finished.

Hi there.

Have just had a good few months off painting myself and am back and checking out the forums. When I saw your post I thought i\'d pop by and leave a wee message.

The first thing I notice when looking at this model is the mould lines. They detract from the painting to the point where you focus on them rather than anything else.

Might be worth just trimming the mould lines down and re-painting the trimmed areas.

I used to use old GW chesnut ink to help shade gold/bronze areas and you can highlight the edges with a lighter gold colour as well.

Another tip that I personally use in I undercoat yellow areas with snakebite leather. It helps to shade the colour and also allows the yellow to go one a bit more easier over the top.

All in all though, your model is looking cool mate. What colours did you use on the blue?

thanks for the the comments. Now that you mention it the mould lines do stick out like a saw thumb.

The blue is MidnightBlue base color with mixtures up to Regal Blue. At the time thats the only 2 blues I had. Ive got brighter ones now but I don\'t wanna go too bright as I want a dark feel to it.

The only brown I had was Bubonic brown and the Only Yellow was Golden Yellow. Ive now got some new browns and a brighter yellow so ill try and get the head better.

The gold is drybrushed + touched up a bit with Brazen Brass, I have flesh was and brown ink so I could try shading with them, then highlight with Shining Gold. Im gonna highlight the Boltgun Metal Bits with Mythril Silver afterwards too.

(Ive edited this post as i got some color names wrong.)

Done some more today. I think im gonna leave this alone soon. Gonna drybrush the base do the skulls & studs and then move onto another one or my standard bearer.

Ive touched up the golden yellow with sunbirst yellow.
Some highlights with ultramarines-blue. (tempted to do one more)
I did the wash on the brass/gold bits then done some shining gold highlights. Could have done with better highlights on the gold as it doesnt stand out too well except at the top of the backpack.
Did the boltgun metal parts, washed then highlighted with mythril silver.

Im gonna use this one as a reference for my colours on the rest of the squad. Although the highlights will need to be in different places.
Should I do another layer of highlights??

UPDATE 17/Sep

I pinned my demon prince together to take a pic with weapon attached. Its just the sword pinned into orions staff with a little green stuff to fill the gaps.

Stage1_A.jpg

Im not sure about what to do with the wrist of the first pic. Im not sure if it looks right and need to make it more bulky or textured somehow.

Stage3_C.jpg

Im taking horns from a standard off a chaos sprue for the head, ive still gotta do the green stuff to put the horns into the head and hair properly.

Stage3_A.jpg

Once ive done the horns im going to try and make a cloth flow from his waist and possibly one at the back too.

UPDATE - 20th September
Made a sorcerer out of a robed bottom I got from a friend. Started another rubric marine too.

I have also broken my standard bearer. The bottom half of his staff came off and I cant find it on the floor. Im guessing its under my bed. :cussing:
