My first SM eyes!

Well, these new minis were meant to be an excuse to paint a little more carefully.
Just thought i\'d post my first complete attempt at SM eyes. Partly for any advice, partly because i\'m way too pleased with them (so criticise if you must, but try to be gentle!).
As a quick note, the rest of the mini is far from finished, and it\'s intended to be gaming standard.
Without further ado:

(Montage just to ensure best display)

I\'ve already noticed myself that
1. The eyes need more outline near the bottom back
2. Gods, photographing this close really makes the rest look bad

Meh.

Edit: Sorry about that, people. Now using imageshack (thanks Mosch), which as far as i am aware works for everyone.

Since taking the photos, then posting them, then realising how bad it was, i\'ve tidied up the outlines. However, my camera\'s dead for a while, so you can still enjoy(!) the older, worse photos.

Hmm. I actually think i\'m getting better. My next attempts, -after- some tidying, unlike the others (idiot):

I don\'t mean to boast, but... Wait, yes i do!
Anyway, my point was not actually just how pleased i am with them, but how quickly my level of painting has improved. Over just a couple of short days, i have suddenly become able to paint detail. I know those eyes are hardly GD quality, but a couple of weeks ago even painting them solid green without splashing it over the face was beyond me. I\'d say no-one is beyond hope, really.

Anyone else have this sudden \'click\' earlier in their painting life?

I guess the next time you might see these marines is when they\'re finished. Scary thought. That is, assuming i have no further problems/epiphanies...

they look realy good! The last set of eyes you painted looks better than the first, much smoother. keep up the good work, and show us the finished minis!:)

Looks pretty good, and yes, better than the earlier ones. I would generally go a little darker under where the painted catchlight would go; the increased contrast makes them \'pop\'.

Yep, practice (especially if you concentrate on a single area) and dedication really do work.

It looks nice, but (yes, there\'s one...) the white spots should be on the right OR on the left both, depending on the light source.

Don\'t you go bringing physics and it\'s associated fiction here!
In my defence, however innacurately, i say that it\'s not a single light source but just general light. General, i say! From the sky (on most planets).
More accurately, if you argue any further i\'ll be forced to admit that even though you have reminded me of basic laws of optics i have taken some creative license. I mean, it does look pretty neat...
