My first attempt at a lighting effect

Well, my friend wants me to paint up his Dark Eldar army, so this is the first test mini. I tried a lighting effect, for the first time ever I think it came out pretty well. The lighting article helped a lot.

the number of it is 54720

The painting looks great. But unfortunately, the pic seems too dark, I cannot really tell where the \"lighting effect\" is. Maybe its just my monitor though...

@Supervike I think if you look under the gun there is a blue glow lighting effect going on :D
@GDK good work but the pic could be a little lighter, but what do I know :D

Here is a pic lightened up in photoshop, hopefully it will show up better, the lighting effect shows up fine on my monitor, though maybe my gamma is jacked up some.

First the unlit pic

Now the lightened one.

Very nice work! Especially for a first attempt. What a kick-ass army it would be all done up like that, but what a pile of work!

thats pretty dang cool. and the fact that it is your first attempt makes it that much cooler. Good job. and if you plan on doing the whole army like this then good luck.

Okay, this is really good for a very first time, but two little things:
Remember the light dims the farther something is away from it, so make sure there is some difference between the light on the closer leg than on the other.
And this is REALLY technical and most wouldn\'t catch/care about it but light is additive color, and we work with subtractive color with paints. It gets really scienitific and such, but basically it boils down to this: light affects color, but not by mixing with the colors on an object.

I\'m just on the verge of figuring this out myself, but I thought it was just a point with on source lighting to make for everyone to think about.

Now if I could just paint and sell all my dark eldar with such a cool idea.. :p

God could everyone stop leanring light effects?! :D I\'ve only just nailed nmm!!!

If everyone here could just stop painting for a month or two while I catch up it will be appreciated!

Good work GDK you\'ve just made my list!:D

It\'s not so obvious - it just looks like his legs are blue, to match his crest. If there was no other blue on his armour then it would stand out more I think. But a good first attempt!

Good point NSA...

Yeah, that is a great observation....If the crest were different, that blue would become more obvious....

Well I have just experimented as well. Now I find that many folks will use a blue light source say, on a blue highlighted armor, or try for a subtle effect. Not sure, but I think most WOW examples of this are very vivid, or at least obvious...

Victoria\'s stuff is truly inspiration.

I bet MY list is much longer than yours :D

GretchinDeathKommand: Nice effect, but I\'m not quite sure where the light comes from..?
