My first army project - The Blood Angels

Hi all,

it has been a long time for me since I touched a brush or anything warhammer related... years passed, and only some old images of my first miniatures floated through my head when I heard about the new BA miniatures... they where my first ever Space Marines I bought. Well, years ago I planed an army about them, but it never happend. Can't remember why.

But anyway I needed something different to do, something else besides work and sports, so now I am starting to do put together my very first real army, the Blood Angels. I just started with some core pieces because I am thinking about doing a different army, more focused on cybots and elite units, but that is just the start.

So at first you can see me starting on my Terminator Captain, a Sanguinary Priest and a FW Cybot Chaplain... please be gentle, I am really looking forward to constructive feedback and comments to get things done smooth!

Can I give you one suggestion on the Terminator Captain.........Tailor the base to the figure, not the figure to the base.
His feet look wrong with such a small amount of contact

Thank you for this hint, now I just saw how stupid this looks on the pic, I'll get to work right on!

The red is looking a little flat, more shadows and a step or two up for a highlight IMHO. But the red is looking quite smooth. Loving it!

The halberd is looking cool, but on a Chaplin? I'd think that a Cruz Arcane, the mace thing, how ever it's spelt would be more in line with the model. But heck its your idea so run with it.

Is the Sanguinary Priest taking off or landing? I kinda like the idea of taking off, but that's just me. If he's landing it looks like the model could be tilted more to the left (the side without an arm). Either way may I suggest that you see if you can find more "natural" wings for the jump pack, as I think that it would add just that more "Leet winness" to what you've got going so far on that model.

Yesterday I managed to get some more things done on my priest, which is the most fun at the moment to work on. (@mud duck: he is taking off ^^) I tried a few first shades / linings and also tried to highlight this again with white, mostly done on his upper body, also did some details there.

Today I will try to finish his upper body and work my way to the legs, also I will do the wings to get things done.

I also tried to paint my first face ever, think it turned out pretty well. I am unsure if I should do more highlights or if anything is missing, but until now it was a real pain to do, especially the eyes... I did about five retrys until I got them both looking alright.

Hopefully you can give me some more feedback and / or suggestions for my technique, I am really looking forward to that!

Is looking very good till so far.
The white looks very good. The best is always to paint a off white base coat and the final highlights with normal white. \
The face looks amazing. I can see you put a lot of effort in it, but the result is very good. I hope you can hold your patience and stay on this level of painting.

I know, it will take a long time to finish an army but the result will be striking!!!!

Keep up the good work, I am loving it already.

Best regards,

Eelco
