My Black Legion Arrives Tommorrow! But How the Hell Am I Gonna Paint It?!?!

If this is in the wrong section then I apologise as I have only posted once before now.

I should be receiving my Black Legion army tommorrow and now I need to consider how I\'m going to paint it.

Now looking at the studio black legion army. I like they way have done it (the gold works well where they have painted it). However, I do think that the way that way they have highlighted it (just with grey) so perhaps I could highlight using a blue tone instead of a grey?

Also, I\'ve been thinking about the shoulder pads. Now on most armies you see you end up with one and in most cases 2 blanks shoulders on them. I was thinking about doing some free-hand work on one of the shoulder pads in the form of a daemonic face like on some models that you see. Also I may consider extending this throughout the army.

I have a slaanesh element to my army. A unit of possessed with daemonic talons and a unit of havocs with blastmasters and I wondering what colours I should use the paint the mutations. Also how could I make the units stand out as worshippers of slaanesh?

The leader of the force is a daemon prince of nurgle of which I am using a slann mage priest to represent it. I am going to add small sores and boils using some green stuff. But what I wan to know is what colours to use to tie it in with my black legion?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers:)

Hullo there !

Hi and welcome to CMoN.

I like the studio army too and if i reccomend one way of doing that golden
trim.. some Brazen Brass followed by a layer of Shining Gold, washed with
thinned chestnut ink and given an extreme highlight of Mithril Silver.

The blue highlighting sounds good to me and i agree, grey + dark blue would work.

First thing that popped up in my mind when you said \"daemonic face\" was the
daemon face on the right leg of Victor
Hardy\'s Slayer Sword winner.
You can see a article with a picture of the model in the articles section. The BL eye would work well IMO.

Mutations(WHOOT!) heh, i\'d try something like from Purple to pale skin
tones.. and i don\'t know how you could
make them stand out, the sculpts kinda
do it on their own :) Pink or purple free-
hand might do it.

Hmm, and the Slann\'s a good idea.. A sickly, slimy green back with a black tummy and lots of golden details sounds good to me.

Good Luck on the army and don\'t forget to take some WIPs and pictures of finished ones. :)

Have you ever seen the Tortured Souls Figures?. Glossy Black is VERY effective, especially with light skin and bright red for blood. Lucidque here looks a lot like the new Daemonettes, don\'t you think? As for blue on black, it\'s a pretty good idea, as black would look to dingy if it was just grey. Only make sure it isn\'t an Ince blue, but more like GW\'s Enchanted blue.

Yeah thats where I got my inspiration from. That and Tammy Hayes aspiring champion on Juggernaught as I think it would look very cool. It is something to consider, however, it may be extremely time consuming if I did it to that standard. Perhaps if I did it with just one colour and just fill the shoulder pad with daemonic faces?
