I bought a Lizardmen Starter Box the other day and so far have painted a unit of 12 skinks and a couple of cold ones, however I had this idea that snake skin seems to hold a tan color when peeled off, and decided that meant I needed to eliminate white from the models completely(save for a model with mark of the old ones.)
I figured with my brightest bright cut out, I should probably cut out my darkest black a tad, so that the model still seems evenly contrasted despite the fact that there is less contrast.
In doing so I decided to wash all my models with Devlan Mud instead of my traditional black wash; then when hilighting the model, instead of blending with a mixture of white and my base color, I substituted Bleached bone.
Low and behold I was amazed by the results of my little expirament. Blending the bleached bone instead of white or an inline color (IE: Enchanted blue to Ice blue) gave it a nice effect. I did this once before drybrushing orcs with bubonic brown just because I wanted them to look dirty.
I\'m curious to see if there\'s any other strange(or unexpected) colors that other people have used to hilight with, and why?
