Hi everyone, i know its not overly mini related but as you guys here are obviosley well into your fantasy + Sci-Fi products i wanted to know if anyone here has got into MMORPGs at all.

Ive played Lord Of The Rings Online for about a year now and I love it, the game is enjoyable to play and generally quite varied and the interfaces and game play are very smooth and not clunky at all and the community is fantastic. Iv just started playing the new War Hammer Online - Age Of Reckoning, and im massivley dissapointed it seems slow, clunky, boring and way to cartoony (iv not played it long enough to work out what the community side is like) im enourmously dissapointed with a game that i was hoping was going to be the Dogs Bollocks!

I have heard that there is a warhammer 40k MMORPG in the pipeline for the far future, hopefully this will be better

WHat are you guys and gals playing and what are you reviews/comments ;)

I\'m playing none at the moment...

Most recently I\'ve played:

Age of Conan
World of Warcraft

My favorites have been/are (in this order):

Everquest
World of Warcraft

I\'ve played (roughly in order):

Everquest (best content)
Dark Age of Camelot
Everquest for Mac (counting it as separate)
Star Wars Galaxies (best crafting)
Everquest II
World of Warcraft (best overall)
Second Life (sorta counts, maybe)
Age of Conan

Humm, I know I\'m forgetting a couple. Oh well, if they come to me I\'ll give this an edit.

I really, really love crafting in MMORPGs, sadly SWG had by far the best crafting system and a pretty good social system (houses, shops, etc...) but just about everything about it really stunk.

Everquest II was a big letdown after the first and while I have nothing to back this statement I\'d be willing to bet original EQ still has more subscribers than EQ II.

I was fairly disappointed in Age of Conan. I stuck with it till just before max level (which didn\'t really take that long) but it was overly formulaic and about it\'s only redeeming feature was the graphics.

I really do want to try Warhammer, even more so now that you mention the graphics are \'cartoony\' as the graphic style is one of my favorite bits of WoW and it too is \'cartoony\'.

War Hammer Online is made by the same people as Dark Age Of Camelot and from what i hear its very similar to WoW, I like Lord of the rings for the story side of things, the crafting there is enjoyable, the combat works very well and the PvP (or Creeps Vs Peeps) is good fun as any one at any level can go in for monster play (You start at level 50 to have a chance against the Peeps)

War Hammer Online is only £10 from play.com at the moment and you get a month free with it so its worth a try

Runescape. I know its got bad graphics and all, but I like it because there is so much you can do. Its not all completely about combat. I played Guild Wars for a bit but didnt like it because all you did was run around and click buttons so that you could use different attacks on monsters. It was so boring. On runescape I do quests, I get money, I work on the other skills that they have, and I can do combat if I want.

I\'m currently playing Warhammer: Age of Reckoning.

In the past I\'ve played:
EverQuest
Dark Age of Camelot
Shadowbane
Lineage 2
Star Wars Galaxies
EverQuest 2
World of Warcraft
EVE
Pirates of the Burning Sea
Vanguard

I might be forgetting a couple...

Playing and loving Warhammer Online. Took me a while to find a character that I was happy with (now playing a Dark Elf Blackguard) but now that I have it\'s great.
Played Lord of The Rings for a while but got bored of all the \"Go and kill 10 of this animal. Now go and kill 10 of this animal\" quests.

I played Star Wars Galaxies alot a few years back. But when they changed all of the job classes around and got rid of alot of the fun career paths I stopped. I used to have a rodian who was a master creature handler and master swordsman but they got rid of both classes

I am still in morning for the loss of Star Wars Galaxies. They totally ruined it and drove their player base away...good on them, Sony and Lucas lost themselves millions of dollars.

SWG had the best crafting by a LONG LONG shot, no doubt. It also had the best PVP before the major revamp mentioned above.

But I digress...I play WoW now...with much hatred and boredom. I do not recommend it to anyone.

Playing nohing currently though have played in the past,

Everquest2-loved

World of Warcraft-hated

Vanguard-admired the ambition of

SWG-Mourned the fall from glory of

LOTRO-Never felt happy with though it was a good game, just dont feel comfortable playing within the LOTR storyline as its very fixed

Age of Conan-loved the style and look of the game but the actual gameplay was rather unfinished may return to it someday

Warhammer Online-love to bits just dont have the time to play it much, it took everything WoW did and made it better and without warcrafts spoon-fed hand holding feel to it.

Currently playing Lord of the Rings Online (litterally in another window) and Warhammer Online. I pop Guild Wars on now and then as well.

Used to play:
The Sims Online
The Realm
Neverwinter Nights (the original AOL version)
Two Amiga MMOs I don\'t remember the name of, Lords of War or something like that.
Land of the Midnight Sun
Various other MUDs MOOs and MUSHes
Final Fantasy Online
World of Warcraft
Eve Online
Star Wars Galaxies
Tabula Rasa
Auto Assault (still my favourite)
Dungeons and Dragons Online
Empire - back in the BBS days
Flyff
Exteel
Dungeon Runners

I\'m certain I am forgetting at least 5 more.

So if so many CMON members are on Lotro/WoW/WAR we should make a guild or something.

Lotro - I play on Brandywine
WAR - Order on Magnus and Destruction on Pheonix Throne.

MUSHes count as MMORPGS? There\'s that, then.
I fiddled with Everquest for a while, but found it tedious. I think the RPG is a misnomer in them. I couldn\'t find anyone that actually wanted to role play as well as hack things.
And I was on the role playing servers.

After that, I just didn\'t bother trying others.

I do not know what lucas and sony were thinking when they thought that changing the game from having around 40 job classes down to around 8 was a good idea. What made that game so great was that one could constantly change job classes and have fun doing it since each class had their own experience. I mastered around 15 different classes. All of the ranged classes, all of the melee classes, all of the artisan and architect stuff, and some others. Then they dropped all that fun stuff and I was left changing my character to a jedi and I have never liked the game since. There are so many other games by lucas where jedis are the focus of everything. I liked SWG better when players had to play forever just to be eligible to do the jedi trial stuff in the game.

@Aliengod3 - What they tried doing to SWG was try to make it more appealing to younger players as well as more appealing to those who were leaving for games such as WoW. I played SWG for a couple of years and loved the crafting. Was a master weapon smith the whole time I played. Once SOE and Lucasarts basically destroyed what made the crafting system so appealing I left and started playing WoW.

Overall I played:

Lineage 2 (mediocre MMO at best)

SWG (best MMO I have played until they killed it)

Everquest 2 (Got boring really quick)

Guild Wars (Also got boring really quick)

WoW (Well balanced, played for about 6 months would have loved more and better crafting content)

I will be starting Warhammer Online next week. To those of you who play it, what servers are you on, as well as what faction? I am thinking either Empire or High Elves so would be nice to hook up with someone from here.

Also those of you who do play it, is there a healer profession in the game? The profession descriptions I\'ve found online aren\'t too descriptive and I would love to play a pure healer profession.

there isnt really a pure healer class as due to the high RvR/PvP content all classes needed to be combat viable so all the healers tend to be pretty good warriors too the healer classes are as follows

High Elves: Archmage (magic/healer combo)
Empire: Warrior Priest (melee healer)
Dwarves: Runesmith (not sure on the breakdown of this one as i\'ve not played the class at all)

Greenskin: Goblin Shaman (magic/healer combo)
Dark elves: Disciple of khaine ( Magic/Melee/heals)
i forget the chaos one its either a zealot or magus

You may want to look into the survivability of the \"healer\" classes. If you are playing the best healer class but die 13 seconds into every single combat with almost full mana, you won\'t be very happy or helpful. If you can heal a little worse and stay alive for the majority of most fights, you\'ll be far more productive.

I just remember being a priest in WoW after release, what a joke. Priests couldn\'t do anything in PVP. Things are different today, but not by much. Just don\'t want someone else to waste their time that way.

Point is, it\'s a good idea to make sure your class/race selection can do the jobs you want to do when you get to where you are going. Anyway, g\'luck, I really want to try WAR too.

yeah I was hesitant to comment on healer survivability but as someone else already brought it up... Archmages have absolutely the WORST survivability of any healer in the game, period. If you want to pvp at all, given your race preferences you\'re better off with a Warrior Priest. Archmages don\'t end up being much more than instant-rez bots (they have an ability to make their resurrect spell cast instantly).

Hmmm thanks for the heads up. I played a priest in WoW the 6 months that I did play the game. It wasn\'t too bad granted that what ever group I was with at any given time knew what they were doing as well. I will have to give it a go and see how it works out in WAR. From all the reviews that I read it doesn\'t seem to be that much different from WoW so shouldn\'t be too bad.
