Minis, fresh from your gaming table...

The Role-playing end of the Forum doesn't get a lot of love, so here's a new thread, let's see if it tickles your interest.

The intention is to post pictures of any minis you've used in recent games. Doesn't matter if they've just appeared in your WIP thread or a Gallery submission, unpainted or a cigarette butt that stood in for a Bedlington Terrier - yes, it's still in one of my cases after umpteen years :D Mobile phone photo of in game action or careful studio shot, whatever you've got :)

I've been meaning to post a pic of the party from my most recent game for ages but they're not all mine & I'm tired at the end of the game & forget to bring them home ;) so it never quite happened.

I'll kick things off with some of the party figures from the campaign that just ended & a couple I put together for the game I run, monsters from the last chapter...

A GW LotR Ranger who was party member Dan (Dances With Otters) an Elven Rogue with a propensity for befriending shortly before stabbing, not the smartest bunny & often manipulated by party member brother Munden the sorcerer (who had intimate relations with a demon... and enjoyed it! ). He was painted for the game...

nhvrvc

My character, Beruk, dwarven cleric of Berronar. A wheezing, pipe smoking, 8 strength & 12 constitution dwarf who scraped by with an initial high score of 14 Wisdom. He survived to 10th level, after various 18 stat wielding characters had fallen too :D (not sure I should be so chirpy about that actually :smirk: ). Painted when I was 19 or so going by the colour scheme, a GW Dwarf Hero c.1985...

yhaunt

The party wolves...

jy20ca

A GW (Ral Partha) 1976 Wolf painted way back when by the Ice-Cream Man, his Goblin rider is safely stashed in a case. This was Sack, a wolf cub slung into a sack after the pack attacked the party (possibly because we'd adventured into the ice cave they were wintering in) & adopted by Munden. The bigger one is a GW pre-slotta, his spear wielding goblin rider is also safely stashed. I painted him when young but think that there's a coat of Citadel colour over the original humbrol metallic enamel! He was the animal companion of the party ranger.

A skeletal centaur, GW plastic horse & Heroquest torso. Put together to represent the desecrated corpse of a young centaur's father that the party were helping to find his missing parent. Ohhh, shame :D Nasty Gnoll clerics presented an appropriate challenge...

7ohm5t

To finish off this post, a Mohrg, an animated corpse of a mass murderer who died without atoning for their sins, according to the book. I had a hidden sub-cellar in a ruined trade-roadside tavern that had long ago been overun by nasties from the West, the youths & oldsters secured below by the overconfident heroes withered & were finally slain by a maddened matron. There was a ghost & a couple of Allips too (children driven to suicide by the broken nanny). Anyhow, the Mohrg was cobbled together from another Heroquest skeleton with Green Stuff to represent the "writhing viscera" & long paralysing tongue...

So come on CMON, show us what's been on the table this month...

Cheers :) B.

I really like the creativity there BPI. The skele-taur and the intestine guy rock!

I haven't got anything recent, but I have a few old character minis I can throw at the screen. Here they are:

This is (a very blurry) D'Kale:
Dkalefront01.jpg

He was my first every character, ripped pretty much straight out of a Dragonriders of Pern book. I played him in a Planescape campaign, where he divided his time between searching for his lost dragon (they were separated when he was dragged onto the planes by a spell) and holding down the CN member of the party so that the NE member could kick him in the 'nads. D'Kale liked to think he was the voice of reason in the party, being LG and all, but the truth was that he was just another Clueless set adrift in the madness and glory of the planes... Oh, and he had an enormous horn. No, seriously! It could stun people! Why are you looking at me like that? It was an INSTRUMENT GODDAMMIT!

This is Phaedric complete with his familiar, Kift the Red Kite:
PhaedricKift02.jpg

I played him for one mad, randomly generated dungeon crawl run by my bf on New Year's Eve 2005. Because I'm coooool like that! Hot 1-on-1 D20 action FTW! A jolly CG barbarian/sorceror with fire heritage, he was designed in a tapas bar and nearly got taken to the cleaners by shocker lizards after wiping the floor with a minotaur (Grease+hole in the floor+lance=fun!). My overwhelming memory of the episode isn't really game-related at all; it's my bf's family periodically wandering through the room we were playing in and saying things like, "Are you sure he isn't forcing you to do this?"

Lastly, we have Joel:
Joel-01.jpg

A bit of a bad boy. Well...., misguided at the very least. Liked horses, didn't really like anyone else. Except his mother. Look, just don't go there!

I played him in my bf's really cool but regrettably short-lived home-brew campaign setting. He was a wanna-be highway man with a chip on his shoulder and a tendency to open his mouth without thinking first. Favourite line: "Yeah, I'd like to sleep with your wife too Arnold!" Said to an NPC who happened to be rowing the party to safety at the time, and who wouldn't shut up about his wife. Unfortunately, the campaign rather fell apart for several reasons. I'd like to play in the setting again, but with a different character.

There have been other characters and before anyone gets worried about me, some of them have been female, honest! I just don't happen to have minis of them at the moment. Well, I have a HF elf (Shimmer) that I got to represent my wood elf character in the worst hack'n'slash fest I've ever played in, but she isn't even completely assembled yet, and I must have left that group in disgust over a year ago.... :confused2:

(Also, can you guess why these have never been CMON submissions? ;) I bet you can!)

I can’t help but chime in, since I’ve been playing RPGs for ages. :-D

After nearly 20 years of AD&D, and some 400+ minis painted, I decided to commission some minis for my party.
What we got was this:

Neboor, a cocky elementalist/naturalist with a love for pretty women and books.
Born of noble origins (unknown to him in game) he *bought* his title later during the game. :-D
When he isn’t burning things and people, he likes to charge in battle in melee with his Quatterstaff +5 :-D
A trouble-maker when things are too quiet for some time.
“Yes, maybe you’re right, I shouldn’t have opened that book, but hey, no-one else was planning too, so …
- but the book was hidden in YOUR library!!! How could we have KNOWN ???”
(offended look) “Are you saying MY library isn’t suited to hold such a book ?!?”

Soliranus, an Elf from Birthright, apt in both the sword and magic. The only “good” aligned PC of the group, he has a very elfish way of considering what is good or not … sometimes doing evil things without really considering them.
Like when he was leading a group in Carceri, and wanted to enter the Prison/Tower there, but a Paladin of Helm was blocking the way (to prevent people from getting OUT). After asking politely for the paladin to move away (of course, the paladin refused), he burned him to cinder by shapechanging into a dragon.
When the other players, including the DM, looked at him shocked, the player said: “well, he could have MOVED away. I wasn’t aiming at HIM, but at the entry door.”
The player is also famous for the name of the spells he cast (due to bad pronunciation): Scream (instead of Screen), Legend Lord (instead of Legend Lore, and we played for a good while at Ravenloft), and many others. :-D

Elayne, a wannabe-Abjurer, but who specialized in Alteration, barring her forever the school.
Usually starts to cast offensive magics when she has finished her preparation into a Rope Trick (where she ran away the first round of combat), when the fight is over, she is of noble origins, and looks from time to time down at Neboor, who bought his title.
A Queen of a country, she is always sponsoring prudence and diplomacy … or so she says.
Like when, at the head of a strong group of troops, she met some trouble-making neighbors (with half the troops and expertise), after painstakingly convincing her people/party NOT to fight them first :
“We know you have been making trouble. However, let it be known that, I, the Queen, is generous, and hereby I offer you a…
- We don’t want anything from you, robe-wearing wen…
(to the troops): Kill them, now, and I want their heads, ALL OF THEM, on poles in front of the castle by mid-afternoon.”

Personally, while I loved the sculpt, I didn’t like very much the painting result, so I did commission it again, this time with the Limited Edition Sorceress (Tom Meier’s) miniature.
The new mini is nearly finished (commissioned to Chest of Colors) and is already looking gorgeous.

Kranatsar, a Demon in human form, the only “evil” character of the group, but who is somehow more “good” than most (or at least, very loyal/legal).
The sword was modified and looks now more “demonic” both in shapes and colors.
Being the most powerful member of the party, he’s often sent ahead, or used to “hide behind him” when things turn ugly.
“Kranatsar, can you pick up the book ?” (Neboor)
“Don’t move, Kranatsar” (Elayne, hiding behind his shoulders)
“You know, you should work on your good nature” (Soliranus to Kranatsar, a couple of days after burning to cinders the paladin)

Quoting myself, since now the bolded part has been done.
Here is the result:

I think it's way better, of course.
And yes, it costed me a ton of money, but it was the last Limited Edition Sorceress sold around the world, so it was worth it, especially since I fell in love with the sculpt. ^^

There was also another addition, a Sigvald with some conversions, made by kacpero, but it's not posted yet on coolminiornot.
I'll write the story of this Player Character when the image is posted.

Hi Lirkas :) They're all Games Workshop - Citadel

Modern plastic Bretonnian from command sprue with plastic Empire shield.
Metal Wizard - Vessilitus Scrollscribe, Wizards C02. Slot front: WIZARD. Slot back: GW 1985.
Metal Fighter - Aldred Fellblade, Fighters C01 Fighters. Slot front: CHAMPION. Sculpted by Jes Goodwin.
Modern plastic Bretonnian (minor conversion to extend halberd).

My notes on the metal ones are at home but I think they're late 1980s.

Cheers, B.

I see.

Meanwhile, since Chest Of Colors isn't posting on Coolminiornot one of the minis of my group, here it is:

http://www.chestofcolors.com/cofc-p...gnificent&name=gallery&include=view_photo.php

This mini is a converted version of Sigvald, to be "Stormbringer-looking".
The Player Character indeed is about this warrior-demonologist, who came from a Stormbringer-like world.
The player was quite new to AD&D (and D&D in general) but he proved to be a very valuable addition.
He learned quickly and developped his character in an incredible way.
He is, in more than 20 years of gaming, the only player who knows how to play naturally a CN character.
His character, Ray-Ler, is indeed weird, and has swinging moods. But not like "crazy swings", they have a certain logic ... that only he knows, but when he roleplays, everything seems perfectly fine.
We're all very impressed by him, I must say.

The hero is of course, considering his origins, a little bit sadist. And it shows perfectly well on the sigvald's scuplt.

Nice conversion (& paint) Lirkas :good: His exposed buttocks still make me chuckle :)

Nice find with the new player. Whilst accommodating them would be a bit of a squeeze, our group hasn't had any new blood for years. Some recent issues I've had with it are, I think, a result of staleness. Though the group at one point consisted of a dozen drunk players, which was unwieldy to play, let alone run a game with. My attempt involved a second DM who ran the NPCs & much of combat whilst I dealt with storyline! 9 was manageable & the current 6 seems a good tally.

Right then, I'm off to play, I have a first level fighter about to enter a graveyard where a suspicious ritual was carried out not 24 hours ago. The ritual would appear to have resulted in the dozen skeletons that murdered a group of soldiers on the city gate. Bloody good, we're a city under occupation, I'm the bastard son of the deposed duke & my surviving female family members are in the dungeons somewhere. I want to buy the summoner a pint :D Of course my insurrectionist tendencies must be dulled for now, while I try to work out where the sympathies of the rest of the party lie, oh, and keep my head down & scarf up so as not to attract attention when I occasionally venture from the scriveners hall where I've been holed up. Should be fun :)

Cheers, B.

News!
finally the last mini of the group, the Half-Frost giant, Patriarch of Hextor (name of the hero: Varatesh) has been painted!

Here it is:

Like the previous hero (Sigvald) this player is new, albeit no so new as the previous one.
The guy used to play only 3.5, but nowadays, thanks to my 2ed campaign, swears only by 2ed! :-D

The PC is of course Lawful Evil, and is the only real champion of his god (Hextor having a bad habit of "punishing" champions that he doesn't like).
Since the whole group is following a LN god of war, it gives a lot of nice plot ideas for me as a DM. :-D

As for the picture I just posted, it is of AoW, of course, and the shield has been modified to have the symbol of Hextor.
While the weapon has been converted to a Flail (because in my campaign, this is a Relic of Hextor).

Wow Lirkas! That's a fancy bit of painting for a tabletop figure, nice one :good: Do they get dipped in gloss varnish after you've photographed them? :D

Cheers, B.

Photographing has been made by Chest of Colors, of course, not by me (I'm no painter nor photographer :-D).

Hopefully they have some gloss varnish, though! :-D (they should :p)
