Hi to all mini lovers,

first of all i want to say what a great help this site can be to miniature painters.
I've learnt a lot in the short time i've been lurking around this site :)

There is however one frustration piont for me; maybe it's just me but it seems that most high end mini painters are not willing to share; i understand that answering every question that people have is sometimes time consuming; but please do try and find the time.

Nobody was born with all the right techniques to be a great mini painter; we all have to/ had to learn it at some piont right??

I,ve been a fan of a mini artist since i've found this site (will not say name) only to be ignored when asking a question (ooooeps another noob asking questions; lets just delete everything posted )

Those mini artist that are willing to take the time to explain; great guys!! you effort is really appreciated; you truly embody the free spirit of miniature painting!!!

I understand your frustrations. my advice is to stick to one reliable source as much as you can.

my sifu told me a story recently..........(mist fade)
a man who follows many people to a single destination will soon become lost when he trys to get there on his own his own.

however don't be too hasty to condemn artists for not replying, for you don't have all the facts on why they choose (or are unable) to.

high end artists (or any artist) should never be expected to pass on their craft.

I think it's more unfair that you would expect them to.

If folks do want to pass on information, more power to them, but I just can't see where any expectations should be set on them.

Oh, and

Resistance is Futile.

well kinda disagree supervike

because these artist do want people to vote on their mini's(or else you would not post them) but it is a problem if those persons ask some time in return.
I understand you cant tell people what to do but i can ask them to think about it given the reasons i have.

high end artists (or any artist) SHOULD be expected to pass on their craft because like said before they are not the inventors of the different painting techniques we have to our expossal.
They had to learn just as the rest of us; it isn't fiar that people found time to teach them; but they are unwilling to teach others in return.

It's just a matter of opinion

and yes resistanc e is futile :)

Nah, I don't buy that, especially where competitive or professional painters are concerned. There are many classes organized throughout Europe and the US every year for quite reasonable fees. You are effectively saying that doctors should give free medical advice, or French/English teachers should tutor you for free since they didn't invent language, or James Cameron give you tips on screenplay ideas and directing films. While there are many people who will do you a favor by answering, many others will not, for whatever reason (e.g. I don't know you, I find it difficult expressing myself in English, it's not worth my time etc). I suggest you accept that some people will provide assistance when asked for free and be thankful for that, coming across as being entitled to the time of strangers over the Internet is not going to endear you to the people you are trying to learn from.

I've received many questions over the years here. I think I've taken the time to reply to everyone and sometimes very lengthy. However what baffles me is the number of times I don't even receive a thanks. Maybe others have experienced the same thing and stopped answering.

But that most high end painters aren't willing to share? Nothing I've experienced, I don't think I ever asked a question without getting a reply. But of course people are busy and some aren't native english speakers and others are just lazy. The thing is as well that you need to ask specific questions. "how do I blend" is for example not a good question. If you try yourself to improve you will learn what questions to ask as well.

Honestly the information for you to become a high end painter is available right in the article section of this site. There aren't really shortcuts or magic techniques when doing showcase stuff. Patience and determination are the key words.

tbh most seem to want to share. i think the ones who don't are simply busy or have language problems. i have only ever heard of one guy who actually refuses to share technique

didn't mean to offend anyone; doktors is an entirely different comparison; this is a hobby and not work!!!! (at least for most).
I'm in the medical care myself please don't compare taking care of people when their sick with mini painting.

Ofcourse painters have a right to ask compensation for their time; i,m only pionting out that they also want people to take the time to vote on their mini's. (else why post it)

And there are a lot of high end mini painters out there that are willing to share;
