Miniature photo tips on SONY NEX-5 ?

I have one here.

There's a macro setting in the scene selection shoot mode, but like all of these type of cameras, it's pretty meaningless.

Sort your lighting and use a tripod. The kit lens seems to focus reasonably close. I'd zoom to 55mm at your minimum focus distance and stop the lens down to f8 or more (use aperture priority shoot mode). Use self timer to trigger the shutter. Should give you decent enough results :)

NEX 5, 18-55mm @ 48mm, f11

Those look good Spacemunkie, I usually have problems shooting whites.

For what it's worth here is what I have been doing with my NEX5 with the standard 18-55 mm lens. I put it in aperture mode, use the 10second delay, set to F22 and adjust to +1.3 for most mini's (down to +0.3 for models with a lot of white on them and up to +1.6 for darker models). I set the white balance to Fluor:Daylight.

I have a homemade light box with three 10watt GE Daylight 6500 light bulbs. On on each side slightly forward of the mini and on from the front mounted just above the lens. The camera is on a cheap tripod mounted about 10" from the mini. I am typically using a graduated blue background as I find I have problems with washout using a white background. Also click on the image in the led screen to ensure it focuses on the mini and not the background.

Hope that is some help.
