Mini hinges-for a defiler

Hi CMONers. I just wanted to re-introduce myself as I haven\'t posted in over 6 months, and I only posted a bit even then.
I am a 20 year old that has had huge aspirations since the young age of 12 to paint minis although I have never gotten into them. I have minimal artistic skills in that I only airbrush a bit. Otherwise I got nothin in the way of skill. I am completely new to the hobby. I hope to become a regular as time goes on.

Now to the question-I am building a Chaos Defiler scorpion pattern and I want to hinge the 2 sets of 4 legs together. I have no clue as how to make a hinge of that size.
The hinge needs to fit onto an area about 20 mm tall and wide. The idea is to have the two sections of the defiler to be able to move side to side. Hinge ideas are much appreciated. -teal :)

Welcome to the forum. Dont sweat not having any so called talent. Most talent comes from hard work. As to hinges Ive seen some made out of brass rod and brass tubing. Cut the tube to the size you need. Then cut into 3 equal lengths. Then stick two to one side and 1 on the other like thus;

|_....... |
| |....... |
| | ....._|
|........| |
|_......| | <--- this is supposed to
| |........| represent a tube on
| |........| a flat surface
|..........|

Then stick the rod cut to length and there you have it. Hope you understood the diagram. It is sunday and I\'m a wee bit hung over so not sure if it even made sense to myself. Good luck

I\'m guessing you want a hinge setup like this:

Right? So the parts can swing side-to-side.

if you are in the Uk...

...then i THOROUGHLY recommend this outfit

4D Model Shop

they are a supply shop for professional/industrial model makers but also offer exceptionally good service to small timers like us...

Hope that helps

My wife is into Dolls Houses and the making of and I know (I\'ve traped around many a dolls house exhibition) that you can get very small hinges for making doors, cupboards and boxes open that sort of thing.

tidoco and Brandlin-Thanks for the ideas. I need some of those hinges for another project. Although what I am looking for is one similiar to NSA\'s pic. Any ideas?

Ogrebane-I think you might have an idea although I am not sure about the \"diagram\" ??? I am a bit confused even though I think you have what I need. Could you perhaps make another go at an explanation?

Hi

in the model digger thats on this list i think you will find that the hinge is very similar in design to a normal door hinge mounted vertically.

Alternatively it may simply be a flat horizontal plate with a hole in it , and another horixzontal plate with a \"peg\" which fits in the hole, allowing the two halves to rotate.

This is very easy to make out of plasticard and some small diameter rod (plastic or brass)

Hope tat helps.

OK try this pic

If you insert the rod before you cut it then you shouldnt crush the tubing. You can buy this stuff as small as .5mm at a railway hobby shop. Good luck let me know how it goes.

I recently picked up a Gundam model at a garage sale and put it together. These are fully articulated plastic toys made to resemble giant battle robots in humanoid form.

Anyway, it\'s kind of like a man in armor and all the joints move.
If you can get your hands on one of these models in other words, it comes with a variety of sturdy and versatile hinges.

Ogre-Thanks for the extra work on the post, much appreciated. Your idea is much better portrayed that way. I think that this is the way I will go. Thanks.
