Hi,

I've never used an airbrush before and am thinking about buying one.

I just saw this deal. Seems reasonable.

"Testors and Micro-Mark have teamed up to bring you the most complete airbrush set available today! Includes Aztek double-action airbrush, 4 screw-in nozzles, Aztek compressor (120vAC), mixing bottles and siphon cap, gravity-feed paint cup, 6 foot airhose, dispensing pipette, cleaning tool, compressor hose adapter, and airbrush cleaning station."

Has anyone used the Aztek double action airbrush? How about the Aztek compressor? Would you recommend them?

Thanks,

Siper

The "which airbrush to get" question comes up lots. You might want to search the forum to get all the info you need much quicker.

Airbrushes are also designed for specific tasks, so, it highly depends what you want to do. Same for the compressor.

Personally, I'm not a fan of Aztek brushes or any of those little hobby compressors, of any manufacturer. But if you're hardly going to use it to basecoat and prime a couple models once in a while, it might work alright.

Yes and no. Look online for comments/reviews of the compressor, I've seen mixed opinions.

Anyway, that's not a bad price at all to get you fully up and running especially given that many compressors by themselves would set you back more than this. [Edit: I just looked again and saw the sale price, that's simply amazing - I've seen the airbrush alone for nearly that amount]

Lots of prior threads here with pros and cons given for the Aztek, users (like me) tend to be fans, people who learned on all-metal airbrushes tend to hate them. One thing is unquestionable though, they're quite reliable, much easier to clean* and simpler in general working so they're a great beginner AB, you can always try something different/more advanced later on when you have more experience.

*Can't stress this enough, see prior threads for more detail.

Yup, I have two Azteks (470 and 770 I think, one resin body one metal), and I really like them. They don't do super fine details as well as the Iwata I picked up, but they're great workhorses, and I still prefer them most of the time. Priming and sealing especially I find it hard to beat the Azteks, because they're just so much faster to clean for me. I just fill the cup with some airbrush cleaner, shoot that through, take the nozzle and cup off and drop them in my ultrasonic cleaner, and pretty much done.
