Martian basing colours

I am basing my Orks on Martian-colored ground. Can anyone give me an idea as to what colours I should use to achieve the rust red effect?

Welcome to CMON!

Depending on how complex you want to make the base but I figure it will be for a while army, the easier the better.

This is GW colors if you use something other than those, let me know.

Base coat: Macharius Solar Orange

Dry Brush 1: Fiery Orange

Dry Brush 2: Fiery Orange and Bleached Bone 50/50 mix.

Wash: Devlun Mud (I will stress this should be a fairly heavy wash, you may need to do two or three of these.)

Base coat light beige

Wash with Burnt Sienna and then with an extremely thinned down wash of Burnt Umber.

I painted the crashed Aquilla from the MacCragge boxed set for a store, but seems I forgot to take pictures of it.

I painted a basecoat of Walmart Color Place brand Red Oxide Primer (which they no longer carry) for the ruddy color, then drybrushed on some Scab Red, and highlighted with Graveyard Earth.

Thanks for the welcome and all the advice!! I\'m kinda new at painting, so the pigments look a bit complex for my tabletop guys, so I am gonna see about the rust coloured primer.
I was thinking about a very light coating of the primer on the bottom of vehicles and wheels, to make it look road dirty. Any suggestions?

There is a new article on painting that rust look that can be found here that may serve for the underside of vehicles.

Otherwise, I would just use the same technique as the ground, to show the ground getting stuck to the vehicles to show how dusty the environment is. Just remember you want some going up the sides of the vehicle a bit in different patterns to show the vehicle is gathering dust, rather than it was stuck in a Martian mud puddle.
