Looking for suggestions for model

Hello, I\'ve been reading the forum articles here for quite a while but only recently registered.

I\'d like to work on a miniature - which would probably need a good amount of conversion. The subject I have in mind is a character from my former days of playing World of Warcraft, the bane of modelling and painting :)

I quit the game nearly 2 years ago and would like something tangible from it apart from screenshots, you see. The character I have in mind are a night elf priest and a troll shaman. The elf was female, the troll male. As far as gear goes, I think the simpler the better, as at higher levels all the weapons and armour look like mobile disco light shows IMHO.

Looking through the large amount of miniatures that have galleries linked from the main page I see some models that may work, but there are so many! If you have a suggestion as to what might work then please add a comment below.

I\'m not fussed too much about scale, 28 / 30 / 54 mm is fine. I was painting GW WH40K miniatures for a couple of years so I\'m comfortable with that size.

Anyhow I\'m starting to wander off topic so thanks in advance!

They also make Warcraft minis now for their collectible game.

Various trolls and elves would be suitable. They have a browsable gallery of their minis at: wowminis

You can strip the paint with various products depending on where you live, then repaint it.

Not sure if you\'ll be interested in that but just as an avenue of thought.

Some of the sculpts are really nice in their raw form, many of the sculptors posted the original greens for some pieces in this line in a forum I use and got me thinking about buying the plastics, stripping them down and doing a proper paintjob myself.

Yes I have had a look at the official miniatures as well. I do think that they would be a good alternative. However a lot of the fun from the whole modelling and painting hobby is doing the conversion, posing and painting yourself. Does that make sense..? For example my Imperial guard troops with plasma guns look like they are holding tommy guns with old style drum magazines. That sort of thing.

Also thanks for the tip Mr D, I\'ll have a look at El Greco miniatures after work.

A couple of the Wyrd miniatures look like they have potential too - Misaki, Myranda or possibly even the Rotten Belles with a bit of fiddling about. The Tarika mininature from Guild of Harmony also might work (swap the sword for a staff, add the lagomorphic ears).

The troll I\'d expect to take the most work, as I can\'t recall seeing too many troll figures wearing much by way of clothing. The female elf shouldn\'t be too difficult, though.

My suggestion, on top of the good ones already given, would be to check Reaper; you can normally use their Figure Finder page here:

http://www.reapermini.com/FigureFinder

Although it appears it might be at the moment I\'m typing this (weird, first time I\'ve ever seen that from them). Once you\'re able to use it, though, type in \"troll\" and you\'ll get a bunch of results, some of which should be suitable; type in \"female elf\" and you should get a ton of results, many of which should be suitable.

Also, for the troll, this old Troll Player #1 from Blood Bowl could possibly be a good starting point -- with, as stated, a lot of work to do as I\'m sure he\'s more slouchy and pot-bellied than you\'d want:

Thanks for the suggestions Iahatiel! Much appreciated. I have had a look around for troll type models. The one pictured in the screen shot (my screenshot, not your example pic) doesn\'t really show the sort of hunched over look very well. However this miniature here:
The Observer
Has a hunched look so he\'s high on the shopping list. He also has a lot of potential for adding tusks and hair and whatnot.

I have yet to go through the reaper catalogue but I will have a look after finishing this post! :)

Thanks for all the suggestions so far.

If you have the files from your game, there are companies that make statues of game avatars.

As long as you have the 3d rendered images, they can make it.

If you want me to, I can look it up. I know they\'re launching for Rockband and Guitar Hero gamer Avatars.

I\'m sure WoW isn\'t too far behind.
If Blizzard doesn\'t block it.

Okay.
So I found some time today and rounded up the info I could find.
Seems that Figure Prints has been doing it since 2007.

Kind of neat to see actually.

Here\'s the two that come close to yours.
but of course they can make them EXACTLY like yours, down to the equipment they carry!

Hey there JesterzUSMC, funnily enough I was looking at that site yesterday. The figures generated are approximately 20 cm (for the tallest races) from what I can gather. They cost $129 each USD so that\'d be close to $190 AUD... pretty expensive. I\'d also have to reactivate my account because my characters are not listed in the database due to inactivity. Hmm that might come across as penny pinching but that\'s a lot of cash to lay down for one momento... Don\'t get me wrong I think the technology and the results of the 3d sculpting are really great, just not particularly affordable. Thanks for the link though! The video on the site shows some of the process they go through to make a model and it\'s quite interesting to watch.

I\'ve had a look through the reaper miniatures catalogues as suggested earlier and have picked out a couple of candidates from there. I\'ll see how I go when they arrive. Until then back to painting loads of Orks. Be nice to do something that doesn\'t have green skin.

That\'s what you get to be allowed to do Blizzard licensed stuff.

The Guitar Hero and Rock Band avatar\'s don\'t go over $80 USD, and most fall under $69.

I couldn\'t find the pricing, I don\'t play WoW.

I like to buy a game and play it.
Not buy a game, and then have to pay to play it.
