Looking for help making an Ork Power Klaw...

I\'ve never really played with green stuff before, but since I\'m making a warboss with a choppa + power klaw combo and a right-armed power klaw isn\'t easy to find to convert, I figured I\'d start to make one. I had some klaw bits laying around from Mad Dok Grotsnik, so I started working on it, but I\'m really unhappy with the way it\'s been coming out. I wanted him to have a huge claw, but it\'s lacking in any solid detail and it really looks like I just stuck it together with chewing gum. Any advice or pointers on this would be very helpful.

Is there any saving it at this point? Any way to clean it up? Any way to add proper detail? I wanted to put rivets and bolts and such, but they\'re just so infinitely small I can\'t manage to apply that kind of thing... The claw off the Mad Dok that I used had straight blades, so I\'ve been trying to mold a curve onto them, but...

I need to make him an iron jaw, since the normal boyz one doesn\'t fit.. but I don\'t know what else to do or how to improve this.
I\'ll also be moulding the greenstuff into the arm joint and smoothing it out a bit after I attatch it, but I don\'t know how well that\'ll go.

And my bionik bonce is a little rough. :-(

personally, id be tempted to cut the claw joint at 45\' (see pic below)so that i looks like its opening. that way itll have a pivot point which will make it look more realistic. if you have too many flat areas still, just add some wires and cables. the bent part of theclaw looks ok and would probably look much better once you have filed it flat.

as for rivets, try rolling a small sausage of greenstuff till its the right diameter and wait for it to cure. then slice of reeeeealy thin bits and glue with super glue.

I\'ve only been working with green stuff for a few months, so I feel your pain.

I\'m not sure what tools you have at your disposal..
Many people here seem to use mini color shapers for smoothing/sculpting GS.
If you\'re unfamiliar with them check them out at www.dickblick.com
They\'re listed with sculpting tools.

As for the klaw.. have you considered using plasticard for the blades? It\'s easy to work with, and you can make the blades any size/shape you want.

If you want a \"hinge\" for the klaw, buy a disposable lighter..disassemble the top.. the serrated cylinder is an instant hinge.

By reading the forums and trial and error.. you\'ll have him ready for Waaagh! in no time.:D

Bit of an update, I decided to make the power klaw a diesel-powered killing machine since I had some spare bits laying around. Should get about 8-9 marines per gallon, I figure. I would have cut it down in thickness a bit but it was built around the original mad dok claw underneath so I\'d have had a hard time getting through the metal and putty with a knife..

Anything I have to do to the greenstuff before priming? Sanding or anything?

well my two coppers are this. Add some support on the outside of the arm. it will add some bulk to the whole arm. what I\'m thinking is the knee joint from a sentiel <sp>.

You\'ve added some wire as a cable why not try a couple of springs across the flat of the claw in between the pincer sectionsand from the back of the pincer fingers to the plastic cover to act a returns.
Other than that Freakinacage has made a couple of good suggestions even if you can\'t use the 45degree cut.

Bit of a continuation:

Ripped the joint off an imperial sentinel for the arm, and I think it\'s finally done (the building part, anyway. I have cables to add all over). Before the greenstuff on the underarm sets, though, I wanted to see if anyone had any advice for making it a bit more detailed than it is (It just looks so flat and plain...)

I tried to follow the curve of the joint and mold a squareish shape that looked like it was encasing the outer arm.

Also, any advice on making an iron jaw? I have teh regular one from my boyz but it\'s too small. =\\

You should be able to make a decent looking Orky iron jaw using plasticard. Just cut 3 sections (one for each side of the mouth and one for the front), cut teeth into the top of them and then glue them on. Rivets can be added with greenstuff or by slicing thin plastic poles.

I wish I could say it looks to me like a claw, but I can\'t. Even if you can\'t cut into the square green block as it\'s based on a previous arm, is there any chance you could mold some GS so it looks like \"ribbing\" between the two pincer sections (a la Space Marine knees?) To me, it just like a static block with three prongs sticking out.

The rest of the work is great, and the arm/muffler combo look very Orky, and there\'s nothing that I don\'t think couldn\'t be fixed up by painting glyphs and weathering.

So far as more detail go, how\'s about plasticard triangles for \"teeth\" in the pincer jaws? Maybe a few flat plasticard squares/rectangles fastened on to the flat areas randomly as Orky technology?

So far as \"jaw\" jaws go, I\'d say use plasticard again, with 3 flat plates for a jaw/hinged plate, and plasticard triangles cut for teeth.

I think it looks cool...:D

Flat and plain aint so bad - more spaces to do flashy paintwork! I reckon lots of ork stuff is over baked....

Maybe...

Hello!

Maybe you could put soething in that claw grip, like a space marine head or limb (a leg chopped off?) so it would be a bit more logical to have such an opening, and the greenstuff square won\'t be that obvious.

Just an idea.

For the ironjaw you could also use the ogre bear trap (plasti ogre bulls command sprue if I\'m not mistaken), to get something a bit different from the usual orkish jaws:)
