Hej.

Getting back into painting lately after a long (2 yr) break due to work and life. Just posted two minis here, one finished just before the break, one finished just last month. Looking for any advice...

Belshazzar the Musketeer:

My own biggest gripe with this figure is that the shoulder cowl is the last thing I painted, and I was getting impatient and rushed it. And I think this shows. I am really happy with the blending on the green coat though the photo might be a little dark to show it off well. A friend observed that my colors on this piece are warm over all and some detail in a cool color would have helped give the piece a little more \"pop\", and I am inclined to agree with him. But I am curious for more input...

Howling Banshee Exarch:

I am happy with the blending on the banshee\'s armor here. I am less thrilled with the base. It wa smy first attempt at a scenic base, and I think it has too much of the \"elephant poo\" rock style too (as Matt Gubser refers to it ;) ). I like the construction of the Marine victim on the base, and am happy with the falling sword from his hand bit, BUT I did not paint the marine to the same standard as the main figure, and I think this pulls the over all figure down. I have seen it in plenty of other peoples\' work, and I see it here in my own - if you are going to do a scenic base, make sure you craft it as well as the figure that stands on it. Any other thoughts?

Both are on 25mm round bases fitted into scenic display bases (held on with rare earth magnets).

I guess its just like riding a bike...

You seem to show absolutely no rust after your two year layoff!

Very impressive stuff. I like the base work especially on both, but the Howling Banshee mini outshines the other.

I am not sure what it is about the muskateer that I don\'t care for. I think technically it is extremely well done. (i still gave it an 8) but maybe a little more attention to the coat. Maybe some freehand work or something to break up the solid color.

The Howling Banshee (I rated it a 9) is just quality all around.

i\'m always wrong when i look at these minis, but i think the green on the muskateer is too dark and has to much blue in it. i like the green up on the arms and hands. i also think the blacklining is to thick on the gun and the shadows on the mask over his face needs more blending into the white. There\'s something about his cross that hits me as odd.

i do really like the the Eldar. It\'s a 10 all the way around in my book.

This is all my opinion though... a quick look at the scores i get shows that i\'m all alone in my views herelol

Maybe I need to take 2 years off so I can come back and score in the 9\'s. :(:flip:lol

That shoulder thingy...well...it looks dirty and a bit too harshly highlighted but you said that yourself. Don\'t know what it is with but it lacks the wow factor although the base is nice and paint job\'s good. Can\'t help you with that.

The display is great but the comic-colours are not my cup of tea. Mmh, I had a bit of a problem to find out what\'s actually going on and only noticed that the Marine drops his sword when you mentioned it.

And airhead, I did the same thing and I tell you, the sudden ability to paint better wears off pretty quickly and then nothing works anymore and frustration sets in because you begin to believe that those fantastically painted minis on your shelf could have in no way been painted by yourself and...I\'m ranting again, am I not?

Well thank you for the feedback everyone.

I certainly agree that the shoulder cowl on the Musketeer is really lacking compared to the rest of the figure. I rushed it, knew I hadn\'t done it as well as I should have... :(

That said, I still think the musketeer was a more skilled piece from me over all, but MUCH less dynamic than the Banshee, so it is easy to see why the Banshee is doing better in the scores.

Well, back to painting. Hope to get some more display quality work up soon (though I am slamming out some gaming quality figs first to get my core skills back up to speed (I have gotten WAY too slow :p )...

Thanks again everyone. :)
