Lizardmen

Hello,
so I\'ve never actually done a work in progress, so I figured since I just got a new camera that can actually take a better picture than my old P.O.S and Im starting a new army this would be a great opportunity to contribute to the forums. First order of business is to develop a color scheme for the basic troops. Im starting with a box of saurus warriors and was wanting to know if any of you had any ideas or had photos of any lizardmen schemes that had particularly tickled your fancy. Im trying to shy away from the studio blue lizards that seem to be the only color out there. thanks in advance.

sweet I might have to do that. I just picked up a box of saurus tonight so over thanksgiving break Im going to try and get a couple of schemes on here for folks to vote on.

Search for \"poison arrow frogs\" and they have many interesting colors like Black bodies and Yellow bellies, and other combinations. Ive got an OOP Salamander in black with Wine color scales.

I like the way you made that oldblood turn out, I was thinking of that same scheme for one of my saurus warrior units

Reaper paints heh

All right I finally got around to painting a couple of the troops, I\'ve decided on two blocks of saurus warriors so I came up with two easy schemes. Im painting these to a table top quality as I just cant stand to paint casualties for fantasy. There not the best but they\'ll be fast to paint and I think look decent enough once their ranked up. I save the more detailed painting for characters and the likes. I\'m not sure why the bottom saurus is coming out black he\'s most definitively brown in real life.....Let me know what you think

I actually like the green better. Dunno what it is about the orange that I\'m not enthusiastic about. Maybe it needed to be more gray than black. Again, just personal opinion and thinking out load. Er, keyboard.

A good solid start. I\'m liking the Orange better, but I agree the skin tones could do with some lightening.

I impartial (I like \'em both) but I DO reccomend doing the shield in a different scheme vs the scales of the actual Saurus. You\'re gonna have blocks of these guys and even with a great color cheme they will look DULL if it\'s merely the same pattern on both lizard and shield, no matter how well you paint them up.

And the Lizards DO look good...

Nice start

I like the green color scheme over the orange, I dont know why but the orange just doesnt stand out to me

I would recommend just throwing the shield some other random color, maybe a dark red or a dark purple if you just want to speed paint them

nice start I hope your guys turn out the way you want them.

Im not sure why the orange scaled lizard is coming out black he\'s actually painted with charadon granite then highlighted 50/50 with aged bone, it happened when I was adjusting the light levels on the photo and just couldnt seem to get a good mix. I agree with the shields needing something to break up the continues color, Im debating on picking out scales on the shields in lighter colors such as bone, yellows and other vibrant colors so hopefully when their ranked up you get a poison tree frog like pattern. Any thoughts on that? Also Im completely lost on how to base these guys, Im thinking a swampy look but no clue how to pull it off.

I would go with a completely different color on the shields myself. A simple variation on the scheme might not provide enough of a difference, for my tastes anywhoo.

As for basing. I have been buying bases from Dragon Forge Designs and loving them, but past that i would go for the jungle look. If you really wanna put some punch on your bases you could go for some photo etched brass leaves and foliage as well....

Or there are tons of cheaper options as well. I\'d grab about half a dozen empty bases and try what you think might look good on some blank bases. After there done you can slap some skulls on them and use them for wound markers for your characters too!

one comment on the bases

you can go to a local pet store, and get a package of aquarium plants (plastic) for maybe 3$ and they look good especially mixed in with a little bit of flock / sand.

heres the new shield designs, I think I have decided to use a variation of the shield on the green lizards to go with the orange as well, maybe with purple instead of aqua

That looks pretty damn cool.

*Resists urge to buy Lizardmen... failing*

The shield almost looks like a freehand effect, it\'s pretty flaming cool.

Nice work.
