I was reading the Golden Demon thread and was wanting to know if there has ever been a thread with links or a list of all the painting competitions on the planet? It would be great to have one since ai want to enter more competitions to get my skills better.

I live in Austin Texas. I have not found much of a mini painting community here. There were more in Houston. I just moved to Austin thats why I mentioned it.

actually your skills get better with practice and experimenting with new techniques to see if they are good for you.
Competitions are not really necessary. :)

Sure, you can't get better without practice, but competitions can be very helpful too. They're great motivators. I know for me just seeing other people's work in person really helped me understand what could be done, where my own work fell short, and what I needed to work on. And there are often classes at shows and you get the chance to speak with the artists and get feedback.

I've heard good things about Reapercon in Lewisville, TX and there's the Lone Star Figure Show in Fort Worth. Those are the only two I know of in the state, but there may be other smaller shows.

I just saw this announcement for another event in Texas. It's up by Dallas, but could be well worth the drive...
