Lightning claws

This is kind of a rules question but also a modelling question of sorts, as i\'m trying to decide what type of armament to put on my captain. Is a single lightning claw treated as a power weapon or just a close combat weapon? I know that the rule book says that it is a collection of tiny power blades on the fist but douesn\'t come out and say \"treat this as a power weapon.\" Any body know the ruling?

As far as I know a lightning claw is counted as a power weapon, but I don\'t play space marines, so I could be wrong.

Here we go:

\"a Lightning claw(s) ignore armoursaves (Power weapon(s)) AND allows you to re-roll to wound dice\"

I heard a single power claw is not worth it though... I don\'t know why - I paint more than I play... Apparently you\'d be better off with a power FIST.

(Although claws look cooler)

Thats because you dont get an extra attack if it is combined with any other thing than a second lightning claw!

the downside is str4 vs str8 with a power fist. On a single wound model like a vet. sarge you don\'t pay anymore though. And you can take a storm bolter with no downside :D Rerolling wounds makes up for the str loss, and you swing at initiative. Works great against non monstrous creatures...but nothing compares to the FIST against big high toughness creatures. 3 attacks with term. honors for Fist+pistol, or 2 with honors for 1LC+storm bolter

But a power fist strike last so your sergeant might be dead before he can even bother to switch it on.....if you want to take ligthning claws, might as well take two instead of one

master crafted lighting claws are the answer, re roll hits and wounds! always take a pair though, as one isn\'t worth it:rolleyes:

one effective way ive found is a Single Lightning Claw paired with a Storm Shield.
The Shield negates the 2 weapon bonus anyway so theres no downside to the claw.
U basically get a 4+ inv in combat and get to reroll to wound.
Handy tactic if u like ur inv saves and have used ur Iron Halo.

I wouldn´t waste my Captains good initiative with power fist and a single lightning claw is a bit waste. If you have enough points paired lightning claws (maybe even master crafted) would be a good choice. You can always take that power fist to squad your Captain travels with so you can deal with dreadnoughts and big monsters. Besides, lightning claws look great.

In my experience single lightning claws should be avoided if at all possible. Paired claws make a great weapon choice for a character with lots of attacks, decent strength and high initiative. Going first with a lot of good power weapon attacks is a sure way to take most of the attacks away from your enemy. This is a very good thing :D

Sergeants often benefit from the powerfist because:
a) it\'s cheaper than claws
b) they can\'t be picked on like a Character can, so going last isn\'t a big deal
c) the squad won\'t all die if you run into a Dreadnought or some other Monstrous Creature types

So on a Captain I\'d steer clear of the single claw if you can. Only having one claw in the plastic Commander kit was really dumb if you ask me.

I never win games down to the last part of that comment.
hang how good it is rules wise if it looks cool it goes in...............Unless winning games is really what it\'s about for you then just model what looks cool.
I\'m currently doing a terminator chaplain with lightning claw for that reason he just looks great...

Half the reason I don\'t like single claws is because they look really unbalanced on a mini. They are absolutely huge especially on power armored Marines. Throws symmetry and balance right out the window. The ineffectiveness in game just doesn\'t help either :p

Hopefully this dude turns out really nice looking, if he\'s pretty then it doesn\'t matter if he lives or dies ;)

Yeah, I have no idea where to find a right arm lightning claw. It irritates me a little, at least from a modeling perspective. I\'ve never played 40k, but I like the idea of dual lightning claws (hopefully without using the Shrike model.)

btw, Lightning Claws are defined on pg 46 of the 40k rulebook.

A single lightning claw is a good way to give a character an edge in CC whilst still being armed with a 2 handed ranged weapon. I just got myself the DA army box and I\'ve armed my Ltd ed Master with the combi-plasma already on the model and a lightning claw hidden under his cloak (I might sculpt some protruding blades). OK so he isn\'t getting the extra attack, then again with the combi-plasma he isn\'t going to anyway, but it is a cheaper and more effective version of a mastercrafted power weapon in all other respects.

If you\'re after power armour LCs try these

Those ones are a little limiting in your work with them, cause theres not an awful lot you can do with that right arm, plus if you already have the veteran squad you get stuck with the same weapons on two guys, and thats something I hate with a vengeance.

Ive done a couple of guys with pairs of claws, using spare cut down terminator pairs, cause the extra detail on the back of the fist looks cool, without being commander stuff, and they dont take a whole heap of work, just cut them off at the elbow, and redo the power cables, I think they look nice and meaty, and if we are going on the thing of balance and such, the day they start marines that actually ARE bigger than what are meant to be puny imperial guardsmen is the day Ill stop being bitter and twisted about it.
