Lighting

Hello,

I tend to do most of my painting in the evening, which means under artificial light. I've just been using a standard desk lamp to add extra illumination this isn't exactly ideal. Can anyone in the UK recommend a decent bulb / lamp combo? I don't want to be paying the earth so the more cost effective the better.

thanks

I have a standard angle poise lamp and a daylight bulb in it. It has worked fine for me, but I havent tried a variety of methods so whether it is the best option I couldn't tell you!!

My lamp is a ses fitting and I can't find a daylight bulb with that fitting. Perhaps it's time to get a new lamp with bulb. HobbyCraft have a few for around £30ish I might invest in one of them

Fluorescent lighting. Most around here are marked with a three digit number like 841, first stand for CRI which is color rendering index. Higher is better. Next two stand for the temperature/color of the light ie. the "warmth". Higher is cooler which is more like daylight. I have 841 at the moment because better is not available to the 11W socket I use.

After looking around on the net I've found a number of reasonably priced daylight lamps from Hobbycraft. They're a UK store and if you register for their newsletter you'll be given a 15% off code. Don't register unless you plan to purchase as the code is only valid for 2 weeks.

I hope this is of help.
