light to use for painting?

At my local shop the owner installed for us painters some very nice overhead flourescent lights. I don\'t have this type of setup at home. The problem has been with some very intense painting i.e 15 layer skin progression wet blends, that the quality and time wasted from at home to seeing the minis at the shop. A friend said there was a good light you could get from costco but I didn\'t see it. What do some of you use halogen, flourescent and what wattages? Thanks

OTT lights

color corrected flouresents.

Or Halogen for a purer white light.

last option would be some Reveal bulbs (standard incandesents with a blue filter).

I recently bought a pair of Osram Halolux Classis - Halogen 60W that I\'m very pleased with... so I use 2 of these so I have light from both sides. I think they do the actual color justice as well as when I photograph them later.

I use an OTT light at home (13w I think) and a daylight bulb at work (GE Reveal 40.)

The OTT\'s quality of light is good, and it doesn\'t seem to get very hot. I paint very close to the bulb and the problem is that everything looks dull when it\'s not under the OTT light.

yep ge reveal for me to. but i use 3 60 watt bulbs in an arc for maximum effect. no shades on them and it seems to work fine for me. :)

Staples just recently started carrying a new line of lights that are supposed to be color corrected. About half the price of an OTT. I am considering picking up another lamp for that price.

Sorry, I cannot remember the brand name.

I reckon you should paint under the light that you are most likely to see the mini under. (obviously this can be hard if its daylight and you paint at night...)

I paint under a fluorescent tube, not the best and I\'ve been thinking of getting a better, brighter light, but not got round to it.

Ott lighting is really pricey, but you should be able to get something close that fits your existing lamps by going to a home improvement (aka hardware) store and buying generic \"daylight\" bulbs.

I don\'t paint in mush daylight as I mostly come out at night and the room I have been \'alloted\' by my wife is not in sun\'s path.

Use 60W daylight bulb for paint and photos (make sure you use same for photos). Gives good bright light and close to what game under

I paint under a floresent tube and an incandesent bulb, both on ajustable arms. This gives good strong light with minimal shadows.
