Yes..yes...crazy...

Seriously though, had I the cash I would be so into LARPing. But due to the cost its either LARP or miniatures. I would do battle reanactments aswell but my lack of transport makes it difficult to explain why I\'m trying to get on a train with a Rifle/Sword slung over my shoulder lol

LARPing is just a more interactive version of tabletop! Its basically acting but without a script and more exciting. Its not like you actually think you are the character, thats the realm of Monsters and Mazes.

Now if you\'ll excuse me, I have to find a virgin to sacrifice to the dark Gods before the next full moon...

Coolest looking LARP I\'ve heard of:

Cthulhu Lives and the H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society... You\'ll go MAD for it!

I don\'t think I could get into LARPing however, I am not the type to obsess over one hobby (even this one) enough to be very dedicated to such a time-consuming and expensive proposition.

If there is a chapter in your area and you don\'t mind fantasy LARPs http://www.ifgs.org/ is really fun. NERO is pretty good too, but I prefered IFGS\'s combat system (even though it requires doing more math while people in scary masks swing 3\' foam swords at you :) )

Just as long as it doesnt involve charging full tilt at someone, grinding to a halt 3 feet away and then rolling dice like normal D&D combat...

No sorry, I forgot to put in the bit about all math being done in your head in the middle of combat it can be a bit ackward at times, but it\'s worth it

If you have any martial arts background, even SCA, you can realy clean up in LARP combat. Except I don\'t think they\'d let me hit as hard as I am accustomed to. I\'d love to get all Talhoffer on someone with a foam sword sometime, though.

Onis Lair - sounds like the Mind Eye Theatre rules... White Wolf\'s official rules, and from what I\'ve heard, they should generelly be no-fun...

Been playing quite a lot of Live (as it\'s normally called here in Denmark - NOT!! laiv as some people want it to :cussing: ), and have been looking just a bit at how it works in other parts of the world - Dagorhir for instance - and the one thing I\'ve found out is, that there are very different views of what Live or LARP is all about, both in therms of the amount of roleplaying versus combat, but also in regards to costumes.
Got a good laugh from seeing the weapons used at the Dagorhir, as they looked more like foam-\'n\'-tape sticks, than weapons.
I for one like my weapons to realistic, or at least close to, and am just overly pleased that some of the best weapons in northern europe is made in Denmark - Palnatoke

But then again, weapons isn\'t all of it, and even though it\'s good fun, and brilliant exercise not to forget, I\'ve fallen back to, so to say, my roots, and am currently playing normal pen \'n\' paper roleplaying, though the urge to swing my sword at people, and wander around in a forrest sure does come up from time to time :)

They are really great weapons to use too :)
I\'m still waiting for them to make polearms and two-handed swords - can\'t be anything but cool :D
And a few years back they had \"training-\"swords and maces, made so they looked like wooden weapons

LARP

Hello There
LARP is really big here in Germany as is middle ages re-enactment , i am a member of a show fight team -metal weapons , loads of armour-
in the uk i am a war of the roses re-enactor and american civil war re-enactor.
larp was how i got into REAL weapons and swordfighting .
In reality its big boys playing cowboys and Indians .
I have to admit i have had my fair share of giggles at some LARPers , like the \'ahem\' Frodo Baggins impersanator and the various guys who buy the biggest (cheapest and Nastiest) sword they can afford , bung on a bit of armour and strut around all day .
LARPing with the right people can and is a awful lot of fun-try it its a good laugh .
But if you want the ultimate rush Tewkesbury Battle Re-enactment (UK) is very very cool , three rules-no head hits , wear armour get hit harder , wear no armour get hit hard .
Battle re-enactment is the coolest hobby in the world , but rather like heroin.

Thats when the good old English(Welsh) longbow comes in handy ;)

Speaking of Tewkesbury, I\'m finding out how to join the Wars of the Roses Federation. Attending the Bosworth Field reenactment has made me decide to take the plunge!

these seem like a nice enough bunch of people.
