Hello, folks. I have been trying recently to start up my own youtube channel and as some of you know I've been discussing making Rivet Wars videos for a while since being on these forums. I would love to highlight the game, the community, the scenarios, and the world of Rivet Wars and make tutorials, strategy videos, and record events and games.

Well, today I took a big step in starting that process. My channel has posted the first two Rivet Wars videos in its new series.

The first is more of an introduction to my channel and my vision of what I want to do with it and where I would like to go.

The second is me butchering a demo. I took a 5-10 minute demo and somehow made it an hour long video. I was supposed to just "sweep through the basics", the very barest of bones, but going unscripted means it took a little longer then I expected.

All feedback is welcome. Please subscribe if this feels like something you are interested in.

So, what are you planning on doing?

  • Community Highlights
  • Strategy Videos
  • Faction Highlights
  • Unit Highlights
  • Expansion Reviews/Highlights
  • Custom Scenarios
  • Printing and playing with my own Custom Cards
  • Gameplay with my Rivet Wars gang
  • Recording Demo days and getting people's reactions and thoughts of the game
  • recording tournaments and conventions and events
  • Discussing in game lore

And more if I can milk it for everything it is worth. My goal is to revitalize the community and maybe, just maybe, get the community back up and running and get people excited for this great game. Maybe with some much needed attention, we can show Ted and CoolMini that this game still has a fan base and is still a great game.

How can I help make these videos better?

And if you have a spare dollar... I have a gofundme page. I'm not begging... but As you can see in my videos I still have a long way to go before I'm a youtube star, and some proper equipment could really help.

What's next?

  • Basics 1.2- Terrain
  • Basics 1.3- Deployment
  • Basics 1.4- Factions
  • General Review- Eastern Front
  • Unit Highlight- Rifleman

Have liked page. One thing, I know it's thematic, but I find the background hiss rather irritating.

One thing, I know it's thematic, but I find the background hiss rather irritating.

Would that be the music playing or the in general noise hiss? I do have old timey background music to try and break that up, but I think the general "silence hiss" is my camera... and it's not very good. If you have any hints or tricks for that I am all ears.

The music is fine, I think, hard to tell with the hiss, thought that might have been added to replicate the old gramophone music. No idea to get rid of the hiss if it's your equipment, have you recorded anything without the music to see if there is a difference?

I've not had chance to watch the video fully yet. But I can see you're in your element!

It almost looks like you're in an old air-raid shelter - haha!

I'm not an audio expert, but there are two things you can do about the hissing:
1) attach a mic to your camera and get the mic nearer to you. You probably need a good camera for this.
2) Pass the Audio through a filter. Most audio software offer insta-fixes for this. It's caused by you being too far from the mic, it ends up picking up background hiss, because it's put it's reception up the max. Another trick you can do along the same lines is filter out low-frequency noises and then turn up the volume on your recorded. It's not ideal, as it distorts your voice ever so slightly, but might do the trick.

For a first recording/vlogging effort, it's top. Looking forward to seeing how you progress things in the future!

Ok, so I am currently looking into a new and better camera. I just figured I would shamelessly plug a Go Fund Me page I have going to try and make it a little easier. The camera I have an eye on is almost $800. Plus equipment. So I am doing one with a goal of $400 to make that a little easier.

If I could get a dollar from every person who has viewed my go fund me I'd be at , like, half my goal by now. Just a small plug. No hard feelings if it doesn't go anywhere.

Update:

New Video:

And, good news,
#1) Got the new camera ordered. Gonna take a hit but I found an AMAZING deal on amazon + promo codes meant it was in reach.
#2) Figured out what that hiss was. So sorry that this video will still have it but all other videos should be MUCH better.
#3) My gofundme is still going till mid May. Still time to donate $1 if you have one to spare. gofundme.com/landship

I'll be doing some more recording this weekend and I have two more Rivet Wars videos in the tube. I also plan to record a game soon, so I hope that comes out alright.
