Land Raider Redeemer or Crusader?

Cake or Death?
The title says it all: I'm debating on how to put my new kit together.

I'm going to be using the LR for my Imperial Fist's Cities of Death Army, but I'd like it to be useful in normal games as well. The plan is to have some Vanguard Veterans in there, ready to do some hurt.

I can see benefits to both variants, so I'm going to toss it out here and see what you folks think.

i did mine as a redeemer since those ap 3 flamers really do come in handy against pretty much anything on foot. just add the multimelta on top for tanks etc if youre worried about those. but as far as an assault tank goes the redeemer is awesome. if you cant decide magnets shouldnt be to hard to fix to the sponsons and whatnot...

(i do have one original variant aswell).

id go with the redeemer since cover plays so much more of a roll in the newer editions and ignoring cover saves will help lay the smack down so much more and since its cities of death youll need it

I actually decided to do both. I bought a second redeemer/crusader sprue from GW ($20), built a set of both weapons on sponsons, and then magnetized the sponsons. Now I can just use the loadout I like best.

@porkchop - for Cities of death, you're right, I'll probably like the flamers - especially since MEQ armies aren't safe from that either.

Land Raider Redeemer or Crusader

This is a long time debate which boils down to how you chose to use your Land Raider. The standard Godhammer can stand off and provide ranged support or rush in. The Crusader has a larger transport capacity yet is a medium range fighter. The Redeemer has the same transport capacity as a Godhammer yet is a close range fighter. And above all else, what you put in the Land Raider is just as important as which Land Raider you take.

If your goal is to get it in there and stuck in fast, the Redeemer isnt a bad choice while the Crusader is a better choice. If your goal is to be flexible and keep your options open, a Godhammer is a better choice than either of the other two patterns.

Now, to answer the original question as to which Land Raider you should buy, get the standard Land Raider and the Crusader/Redeemer weapon upgrade sprue. If you magnetize your Land Raider while building it, you will have all the pattern options to field it as a Godhammer, Crusader or Redeemer when and as you want.

One thing not mentioned above is that no matter which pattern you take, all of them are sub pare if fielded alone. You need to take two Land Raiders in order to increase the survival of either by a factor of 4. One LR is a huge target, while two LRs are two much smaller targets three are a total pain in the , and four might provoke some harsh language.

@Vib - Welcome to the forums, and thanks for the advice!

After playing a couple of games, I definitely think my 2000 point list is going to have 3 Crusaders in them. One will carry some Sterguard and Captain Lysander; one will carry a squad of vanguard vets possibly with a Chaplain; one will carry some assault termis with a chaplain if he isn't in the second one.

I'd love to take four, no matter the comments I'd get, but I could only do that in Planetstrike, and I just can't get into that expansion.

you are allowed four in an ordinary game aswell, one as a termie transport and the rest as heavy support.

I'm a staunch proponent of the Crusader pattern because it's the only variant that can shoot every weapon on the move, and my Land Raiders are always moving...after all, that's what transports are for. Iroically, though, I generally fill both of them with close combat Scouts, accomapnied by a Techmarine and/or a Chaplain or Kor'sarro Khan

Long time, no post.

Seeing that someone was having the same debate I was having a while back, I decided to hop on and see what sort of advice I could muster, after a long time away toiling in that fantastical place known as the 'real world'.

Redeemer : Yes, AP3 flamers are made of sex and win. Works great for cities of death games where the enemy has the ability to get close and use cover to do so, particularly so in such cases where they're moving quick-fast and in a hurry. Problem is that you lack ranged support to soften targets when you get to them, say, if you rolled into an alleyway. Tough choice, really.

Crusader : Citing page 104, Special Rule #4 of Imperial Armor V.2 (Space Marines and Forces of the Inquisition), I bring to you, the Hurricane Bolter. -ahem- "Each hurricane bolter counts as three twin-linked boltguns. The Crusader MAY ALWAYS FIRE its hurricane bolters, regardless of how far it has moved or what other weapons it is firing."

Not many people I've played with seem to know this little rule, and mouths go slack when I roll the Land-Hammer into the face of an enemy and unleash a twin-linked Ass-Cannon and the hurricanes into them for a punishing 4-and-12 shots. It makes one hell of an assault delivery system, considering that little rule.

Hell, you might already know it...but I have little and less to do in my spare time now, so I figured I'd pop off. :p
