Kingdom Death, a New miniature board game! / A quick hello and introduction!

Hello good peoples of coolmini or not. I am a long time lurker / purchaser of independent mini\'s from the coolmini store ( under a different username ) and I wanted to say a big thank you to the community at large which has deeply inspired me.

So inspired in fact, that I quit my full time job and dove into developing a miniature board game! The learning curves are certainly steep and the amount of work is just staggering but...

Finally, after way too long, I am very proud to introduce the very beginning of this brand new horror fantasy experience.

Kingdom Death

The game is DEEPLY inspired by the classics heroquest and warhammer quest, the work of HP Lovecraft and a monster filled horror japanese comic series called \"Berserk\".

The Goal is to release a very high end boutique gaming experience. The mini\'s will be all hand cast in resin and we have very special news regarding the gameplay and complicated record keeping these games require that sadly I cannot tell you about at this time.

We really wanted to create something a bit different then your average fantasy setting and right from the get go we decided that there would be no elves, no dwarfs, no orcs and no zombies. ( Along with many other classic fantasy staples.) The focus of the games setting is on human beings living in a monster soaked world and the odd and very inhuman relationships that develop.

I plan on making a more official sounding news post later. In about a week or two our very first miniature will be commercialized. This short run of 100 will be cast in resin and every order will be numbered along with a thank you note and a high quality print of the characters concept art. I\'ll be alerting my own mailing list of updates before posting news anywhere else, so if you wanna make sure you get one, please join the mailing list found on our website.

The site is tested and works fine in firefox,ie7+ and safari. Anything else is sorta unknown.

So I\'ve prob blabbed on enough let me post up some pictures!

I should also mention that the website is built within a social networking / social bookmarking site. Currently registration is open, but we will be closing it soon to clean it up and add many improvements. We have also been discussing making it more geared towards hobby / board gamers instead of just \"general\" as it is currently. Check it out if you like :

She is 38mm to the eyes. The overall scale is a bit taller / more realistic proportioned compared to gw\'s 28mm heroic.

I have yet to work out price stuff yet. I\'ll most likely announce the price when she is available.

Looks really beautiful. I will keep an eye on that miniature and this game. Could you inform us with some rules or how the game system is like (as I never played heroquest.. before my time:p).

Well, it\'s not a skirmish or war game. You don\'t command a small band of characters and go head to head against a friend. We would like to do a skirmish game, but that\'s really something that might happen in the future. All our efforts are going into making the board game experience a fantastic one.

At the most basic level, you and a handful of friends will fight cooperatively versus the game system itself. The adventure, your objective, the monsters you fight are all determined by various decks of cards.

As a game player, you will select a character class to represent yourself in the game world and if he / she manages to survive... you will amass treasure and unlock new experience levels and special abilities.

Each character class has a few \"archetypes\" that a player can \"build\" towards. Some of these archetypes are very specific and will lock previous abilities attained. Others are a bit more vague and not so closely tied to the characters developing story.

I guess its sorta hard to describe quickly... a cooperative board game? It\'s certainly not a RPG in the pen and paper sense, with a dungeon master and all that. But it shares similar aspects in terms of character development.

Players will take turns moving about the generated \"board\" which consists of several \"room\" tiles. Not to say that you\'ll always be specifically indoors... You\'ll fight monsters and overcome challenges generally working your way to a final climatic boss fight.

Looks/sounds very interesting. Not sure about that second piece of concept art - she looks kind of odd-shaped - but the resultant mini is a cracker.

That\'s interesting. There is a bit of perspective on her back leg which I guess could be seen as odd.

For the mini the sculptor and I decided the illustrated pose was a bit tough to capture right so we went for another one. The idea for the pose actually comes from a \"rouge\" marvel figure.

I am waiting on the boxes to pack the mini\'s in. It\'s all quite exciting for me! It\'d be amazing if all 100 manage to sell, but in realistic terms I think 20ish is a more reasonable goal! hehe.

A quick thought: You might want to warn people about that Poot website before they wander onto it during their lunch break at work. I don\'t really need for my colleagues to think that I\'m hunting for porn while eating my sarnies.

Re the concept art: The perspective\'s part of it, but the upper thigh of her front leg looks very weird. Having seen plenty of female thighs (including in the mirror), I can confidently say that I\'ve never seen any that look like that.

The poots site does have a worksafe mode which is enabled by default. You must have turned it off by accident. It\'s the little monitor icon in the upper left hand corner.

I would also advise leaving anonymous off, as random weird crap will appear now and then.

The mini is sculpted by someone new to the table. I am excited to give a full introduction for him once the mini is \"commercialized\". He is Australian!

Nope. Just went on, saw all those links for pornography and 4chan and left again.

Not sure whats happening for you exactly Amazon. There is a lot of 4chan stuff there, the guy who runs 4chan helped me stress test the engine by pouring some traffic my way.

The bookmarking, card metaphor part of the site does work, it\'s just a bit wild currently. There are no moderators and no set direction for it yet. We\'ve been focusing our efforts on kingdom death so I apologize if you saw some things on the poots.com site you didn\'t feel was appropriate.

Don\'t get me wrong, I don\'t have a big problem with it ordinarily (the internet is for porn, I\'m told), but I like to know beforehand what I\'m likely to see, especially if I\'m browsing at work. Just a lil warning is all it takes, then I know to look at it at home instead, where I\'m the only person around to be potentially embarrassed. In short, don\'t blame me, blame my open-plan office environment!

Concepts and the mini looks very appealing, although I\'d rather your site didin\'t blocked out my ip range (or most probably the whole *.pl) so I don\'t have to use proxy.

Hey, I am not sure what the issue you are having is exactly. We had a bit of a problem with our IE6 re-director but we fixed that! I am very sorry something is not quite working right.

Anyway, the people over at dakka dakka requested a size comparison, so i figured I would post that here too.

The White Speaker mini is one of the largest player characters, they are tall and fierce women. The majority of the other characters are around 36mm instead of 38mm and the monsters vary hugely. Some are around the same size, some are big and some are HUGE. So far there are no monsters in the range that are smaller then the humans... actually looking over the list here... there are not monsters even PLANNED smaller then the player characters. Well not yet at list.
