Jain Zar: Finished What ya think

Here\'s the latest mini I\'ve been working on, a Jain Zar and she\'s been pretty fun to paint tho holly crap was this a horrid mini to prep, mega mold lines and miscast bloopers everywhere. She\'s about half way done; hair, tabard and blades are the last major sections to do as well as the lil details gems, straps an so on. I\'ll be finishing the shadows and highlights on the arm and hand once they are attached as I\'m no good at picturing them to get em right. Main thing I\'m a lil stumped on is the tabard; the hair is going to be a golden brown/dirty blonde, blue and green gems, tubes / wires on the weapons probally a dull yellow, blades I\'m not sure but probally a blue or aqua to white.

Let me know what you think! Oh and I\'ve got the base already thought out I have a wooden lid with beveled sides that I will be filled with water effect with a piece of ruined eldar architecture (warp gate, statue, fountain whatever) in the center that she will be landing on / leaping from. I\'ll be putting in another batch of cat tails and some water lilies (if I can pull off tiny lotus like flowers they will be there too).

cheers
Jon

For the tabbard I would probably go for the same off white you have used on the staff. That should work well in not drawing away from the face to much and give that region a subtle contrast to help give some contrast. Just my 2 cents.

Good Luck with her.
I know from experience what a Swine she is to paint and not snap her at either ankles or base tab.
I can see that you\'ve removed the tab and used a pin, which I hope is steel as I ended up reparing one for someone at my local store and had to use a steel dressmakers pin to stand the weight.

The colour scheme you are working on looks well balanced Purple, Teal and White, personally I\'d suggest continuing the white in the hair rather than goingwith a Yellow.

blaah, hate this mini. my plot to convince jervis to redo all the phoenix lords and release them in a £25 box set will continue.

nice work so far, I have to agree with DR, (anything he says makes so much sense:D) white would be better for the hairs, but maybe not pure whie, just slightly like astromnican + a bit of skull white.

just my 2 cents.

(p.s, the base sounds great, any pics soon?)

Obviously you don\'t know me that well. lol

But the idea of redoing the Pheonix Lords as a Box Set \'aint a bad one.
Personally I think that there should be a Warp Spiders Pheonix Lord.
Heavy Carapace, multiple Spider like limbs, Warp Spinner pistols.
(Can\'t you tell my first army was Eldar, still have a soft spot for the Interior Decorators of Space.) lol

why not a shinig spear phoenix lord? ive always wondered why there isnt one, how cool would a larger eldar wielding a PROPER jetbike and his own personal wpn the shrieker lance.

as for warp spiders, both them and hawks need redoing, but a phoenix lord with twin spinerrete rifles, the spiders bite (upgraded power blades) and the \"expert jumper\" skill(re-roll ones when landing in difficult terrain.)

just my thoughts.

also, how about a datasheet for the rana dandra, the last battle of all eldar and chaos when all the phoenix lords unite? how cool would that be?

You can start on those data sheets now if you like.... :D

Even as a marine player Id like to see the phoenix lords redone, yet another thing thats been let slip into horrific single piece flat minis.

Well here\'s my lovely lady 99.9% complete just gotta find some dried flowers that resemble water lilies / lotuses for in the center of the lilie pads.

I took your suggestion on the white hair tho went more toward a grey pure white jumped out at me to much. Let me know what you all think of the base the eldar rubble she\'s landing on / leaping from is the first thing I\'ve really done with greenstuff other then piddley lil things. I also managed to sneak my snake in that I made for my howling banshee but ended up to big. I also tried a morning dew effect on the leaves.

Hope you like her :D I know I\'m smitten.

I\'ll be posting her up for votes once I get the flowers added and tweak whatever I may have missed.

It really is great work. The one thing that jumps out at me: the spiral on the left should seems a bit plain. Maybe more highlights? (Caveat: I have been drinkin this evening... go with it).

Thanks thunderhawker glad ya like her, and I agree totally I had originally had that swirl shaded down but it lost distinction with the dark tones but I need to do something probally tryshading down one tone and highlighting with a lighter tone of lavender see how that looks.

very nice. I agree about the swirlie, needs some help. The cat tails looked a bit solid/shiny to me, but otherwise it\'s aces.

Well here she is had a lil problem with the water had it end up shrinking so had to peel the old lily pads off top off the water and make sure it wasn\'t just dry but done contracting and put some new lily pads and some flowers in there and also touched up the swirl on her shoulder.

Please give her a Vote. Thanks C&C Welcome!

Dagnabit...You\'ve made me want to dig out a copy I have, strip and re-do her to emulate your scene.
I like the whole effect of the base, ruins flowers and water.

First off, I think you did a great job on the model. I agree that GW should do an updated version as I have never really liked this one. The snake is great and I like the water effects. The white hair works good (I was thinking light teal would be better until I saw what you did with the white).

So here are two things that I might suggest:

In your first close up it looks like the right thigh armor needs a few watery purple washes to blend out your transitions a little more (if you have already done this then ignore the comment).

The second thing that I\'d suggest is that the Eldar wraithbone needs some runes or lines or something on it to give it a little more definition to get it up to the mini quality. Maybe putting some of that teal color into it would make it a little more interesting (as a shadow color).

Don\'t get me wrong, like DR mentioned your version makes me want to paint one... even though I\'ve always hated this model.
