At least you got the chance to believe that you were good at one point in time. I got into the hobby AFTER seeing what quality they could be painted to. My only consoling thought is when I pull up something that was ranked at a 2 or 3...

... and then read it was painted by a five year old. It\'s then m right back down in the dumps. :D

Just work through it... Everyone has their own way of coping with the dispiriting existence of paint jobs so good one could never do them onesself. I am actually taking a \"step back\" right now, worrying less about producing technically great paint jobs and concentrating more on the \"fun\" of painting. I expect these minis to score as 6.x or so, but I\'ll actually get them finished in a reasonable time without too much frustration.

LOL! :D
I know the feeling, years ago I had a couple of minis on display at my local games shop and they were pretty much the best there but coming back to painting now I\'m seeing a whole new level of quality that I only saw in magazines like White Dwarf back in the old days.

Don\'t forget though that this is the internet and the minis on sites like this one are the cream of the crop.

Hey at least you realize theres room for improvement and now you know whats ahead for you. Its the ones that can never see that their work can stand to improve that never get it..

welcome to the club, its an addiction :)

I like CMON because it helps me to just enjoy the act of painting. Knowing I won\'t come in first place takes the pressure out of running the race.

Ach lass stop whinging. lol
You got a lot going for you;
1 You are a lot younger than a lot of us
2 You\'ve got plenty of time to learn new techniques
3 You\'re a girl in a predominately male hobby, revel in it.

lol

i often feel like that too a lot of us do. you have an art background which you are good at which helps and being able to see your own shortcomings is probably one of the biggest helps in the game.
your giant looks good so that a great start.

This is good advice. I\'m doing the same right now. With the wankers at GW cancelling ATL GD, I have been just having fun painting minis that I will game with. I\'m doing some Pulp stuff right now and some Gangsters, and even...gasp...Heroclix repaints. When no one\'s looking I even drybrush. The only GW minis I\'m doing now are commissions.

Do remember to take some of the photos with a pinch of salt (not to mention some of the scores!) lol

What a lot of folks on this site won\'t tell you is that what you see in the 9-10 rateing range are figures that were not painted for table top game play and will never in fact be used for table top game play. If your compairing you game paintjobs to what they are doing your shooting yourself in the foot.
I think your giant looks great. Definately as good as most miniatures that actually see action.
Personally I\'d rather have a lot of nicely painted minis in the 6-8 range that I actually use to play games with rather than a few 10s that gather dust on my shelf. I\'m a miniature gamer who likes to play games with fully painted armies that look go not a miniature artist looking to win awards in painting contest. You have to decide what kind of painter you want to be for yourself. Don\'t be ashamed of being able to paint up armies of nice looking miniatures.

So that\'s where that thread came from....

I don\'t look at CMON and get intimidated. As was stated above, most of those top jobs are display pieces, not gaming pieces.

I\'ve been painting for a lot less time than I\'ve been collecting metal, and over the next few weeks, I\'m actually going to be doing more stripping than painting, as I just bought out someone\'s collection of metal at a very reasonable price. Too good a deal to pass up.

I look at the pictures for inspiration, or just to enjoy the art of it when they\'re really good. I don\'t aspire to be \'great\'. I\'ll never win a Slayer Sword or a Demon. Maybe a local \'best painted army\' now and then, but those are incidental. You enter the tournament, you might get it.

I\'m not a competetive painter. I have no intention of becoming a competetive painter. I might enter a couple online, now and then, just to make everyone else\'s entries look better, though.

I like this site.
