Is this model really a 5.6?

I think it\'s the photo that does it, the picture is kinda dark and crappy so you can\'t really see the details on the mini.

Good photo means higher score, somting that is pretty obvious here :)

Dark, glossy, out of focus, and a messy background. For sure, it\'s the pic that\'s bringing it down.

Well, the picture quality isn\'t good enough. Plus, I think you should have taken it from another point of view. I needed a little time to realise that he holded two swords. Next time, try to avoid this background for your minis, put a paper sheet or whatever.

Concerning the painting, I\'d say there is a lack of contrast... Good luck for your next minis !

Well I\'m afraid I can\'t take any more pics because I sold this guy on eBay. Any comments on the painting? I knbow you cant see the swords very well but they had a very dirty-slimey look to them.

As a side note, what do you guys use as backgrounds?

Yup, it\'s the picture.

Slightly out of focus (I\'ve seen much worse...), a distracting background, and an unflattering angle to the shot all hurt. It\'s too bad that you\'ve sold the figure.

One thing that is nice is that it looks like you actually have enough light on the figure for a good photograph, so however you\'re lighting it, keep it up.

For improvements to your figure, I suggest a matte sealer after what looks like your gloss sealer. A glossy figure does not photograph well -- the only things that should be glossy are wet things. It\'s true that a nurgle figure should have some glossy parts, an entirely glossy figure just looks messy, especially glossy armor.

The highlights look a little messy, but because of the glossy figure I can\'t be sure. The knee armor would look better with a clean transition from light green to dark green; as it is, it only looks like it\'s one shade of light green, one shade of medium green, and one shade of dark green.

Heh; you replied while I was writing. For backgrounds, I suggest going down to an art supply store and buying a large colored sheet of paper. A popular color is light sky blue, I use a tan marblish backdrop myself. Place it against an object (like a wall) so there\'s a smooth 90 degree curve, and that\'s a nice inexpensive solution. (the paper should be $0.50 - $3.00, depending on the quality of paper.)

Well if you want to know what the lighting is its just daylight! I find using a lamp gives the model a yellow tinge.

Yeah, maybe I did over do it on the purity seal spray. I didnt want the highlights to be too neat because I wanted the nurgleish feel to it.

Yuppers, regular lightbulbs will give a yellowish quality, and halogen bulbs will give a bluish (funny, it doesn\'t look bluish *rimshot*) tinge to the pictures.

FEAR NOT YOUNG MORTAL! You can buy day-light bulbs that give a nice white light (like the GE Reveal bulbs) and that is a great, inexpensive way to illuminate your work. Fiat Lux.

Daylight is the best; that\'s what I exclusively use. It can be a pain in the winter, but you can\'t beat it. The day-light bulbs are nice, but nothing beats natural indirect light.

no, its not a 5.6

In my opinion (which is usually the only opinion I can give!) I would say it is a 7.

Nice and slimey looking.... :D;)

As others have said already, the picture is a bit too dark, the angle isn\'t too great, and the model is shinny, all of which bring the score down. The mini itself looks like it is probably good so give it a coat or two of matt spray to cute the shine and retake the pictures.

So, the answer to your original question....

...is no. Your model is probably worth more than 5.6. But the photo of your model probably is...

A lot of people seem to forget that it is the photo being voted on, not the model itself which as we know, is always better IRL.

It works in reverse as well. There are some pretty average minis on CMON that have slightly higher marks than they deserve because someone has taken a cracking photograph (I am not referring to Photoshop jiggery pokery).

Yep I think everyone else has already touched on the reasons why this is a 5.6. I think the scheme is suitably nurglish.

i gave you a 6, maybe the model is worth even something more, but the photo doesn\'t show it well: it quite out of focus and the background is really no good.
In addition, there are large areas in deep shadow so it\'s impossible to see them.
The painjob is quite good, even if highlights are a little harsh and it\'s a bit glossy.
Unfortunately you can\'t take any more pictures, but i believe that with proper backgroud and light conditions it could get a 7 with no effort!

cheers =)

It\'s obviously higher than gaming quality so I\'d say that it\'s higher than 5.6... Or 5.7 as it is currently rated.

But there have been many discussions on ranking scales here so I\'ll not start yet another one...

Just my 2 cents...
