Never used digital software before but was looking at photoshop and it is way to expensive. Do you all think photoshop elements is good to go with for mini photography?

Hi jcichon
Photoshop elements is far enough for mini painting photography. You will just need to adjust contrast, highlight, shadow, some noise if you took picture in higher ISO, cropping, reducing the size... If you want powerful catalog option, if you take other picture, slightly different budget but you can use Photoshop Lightroom, you can do all what was mentioned above in a really simple and efficient way, adding the fact that you can catalog and easily stitch pictures together (collage) in the print section...
I personally do lots of photography and use Lightroom at 95%.

Lightroom is quite powerful to categorize/"catalogize" and quickly adjust (contrast, brightness, etc...) lots of picture. Then I found recently that using print option I can generate collage which is perfect for online mini pictures, as you find in the gallery, vertical collage of different angle of the mini.

I don't use Microsoft digital image, so I cannot really state if better or not... Price wise it might be if it is already included in your windows. But it might already be anough for most of the editing for miniature photography. I believe that Photoshop Elements is already the highest level required for mini photo. Photoshop full version is just far too much, like using a war hammer to kill a fly!

If you are a teacher or student, married to one or the parent of one living at home, you can get Adobe Lightroom and their other products for a substantial discount. Two caveats is that the offer is only good at their website and you cannot buy upgrades for the version you buy.

I got my Lightroom Teachers Edition at Amazon actually and have been using it for almost every photo I take. You will need to send Adobe a Copy of your Student or Teacher I.D. though. Took half a day till I got the Ok.
It`s a very good and simple to use Photo-Editor with lots of handy options. Add a Beginners Guide for 15€ and the fun can beginn.

With regards to Photoshop Elements, can you create collages with it i.e. stacking photos, and can you replace backgrounds? I recently lost access to the full version (well CS2) of Photoshop and so I need to find a suitable low cost alternative that will do the things that I used to be able to do.

If you want something free, try GIMP. I used it before I got photoshop and it works perfectly fine for basic photography stuff.
