Hello everyone! first post (of many) from me here.

After a serious nostalgia attack brought on by finding a dusty box of my old miniatures, I've decided to pick up the childhood hobby again after 15 years :)

On opening the old box of minis I soon came to the conclusion that younger me:
- never finished a project
- had enough unpainted troops to conquer a galaxy
- got frustrated with painting

Well I'm older and wiser now and this time around I want to have a serious crack at painting, armed with all the tools I didn't possess at the time (y'know; patience, attention span, deep pockets...)

Scouring the internet for tutorials and advice has naturally led me here!... I'm determined to build up my skills, learn from all the inspiring people (and paint jobs) in this community and hopefully have a bloody good time in the process!

Anyway on to the WIP... Santa Claus brought me a copy of Dark Vengeance and so I've decided to use the sheer volume of minis as an opportunity to experiment and practice, I'm hoping to be able to produce something snazzy by the time I get to the company master and helbrute etc.

This is my first mini from the Dark Vengeance box.

I originally wanted to try NMM armor but I think I kinda chickened out of the extreme highlights, you can see the beginnings of the the shading, most noticeable on the back of the legs.

Here's the posting for said mini: https://www.coolminiornot.com/392004 I'd really appreciate a vote/comment/feedback so I can track my progress as I work my way through the entire box :)

All comments and feedback very welcome and much appreciated!

Thanks! :)

Yeah there's so many figures, I've only done one and I feel like I need a vacation so I understand where you're coming from!

Just been looking through your WIP thread actually and its full of cool stuff, especially like the Sleeping Beauty diorama - only got as far as page 7 so haven't seen it finished yet ;) Did you scratchbuild that dragon?

Welcome aboard, Mattias - this is a nice corner of the web. I'm pretty new here too and thus far there have been some really helpful people.

I think your marine is off to a great start (despite being a marine, ha). So far the painting looks pretty crisp, so you're ahead of me already!

Hey Dazzler, thanks for your kind words :) I expect I'll never want to see another marine after I finish this set!

Liking your sculpts by the way, very realistic maggots ;)

Ha dude it's so much worse than you think. i converted all the DA to be angels of redemption and resculpted all their icons. They have a split green and bone scheme. At least all my chaos side is done :p

Hey, if you just started out, that looks really really good! You got smooth coats and good light placement, that's a good point to get far!

Thanks @KruleBear and @oistene, I'm going to try and push the boat out for the next few models and see what happens!

Ok I've started adding the highlights to the next model. My goal with this one is to almost go "over the top" with the contrast between light and dark, as I'm not convinced I took it far enough with the last one.

I've done some rough airbrushing to start, and although it's pretty messy, I can't deny that I've committed to some serious contrast...
