Internet to Phone

Yeah... I\'m getting sick of trying to hold a phone to my head while on the computer.

I\'ve been experimenting with various programs that allow computer-to-phone communication but they all give me errors such as
Modemerror.bmp

(This is with \"Phone dialer pro\")

I\'m on broadband... Does anyone know anything about this? Is it even possible?

I\'m presuming you have tried the broadband solution shown in your error message?

Otherwise, I\'ve not tried exactly what you are doing, but there is a fantastic piece of software called Skype that uses voice over IP. It allows free calls to another computer that has skype installed, and has extremely cheap rates to call landlines both nationally and internationally

Awesome... Yeah I\'m using it... Talking to Kathy right now... kind of weird talking without the phone... but yeah!

Ummmm... have you ever tried a headset? They are most common with cell phones, but you should be able to plug one into any newer cordless phone.

As far as that program, do you have to type or do you just speak into the computer? ???

You just talk as long as you have a micrphone or a headset, but much better quality than msn voice - proper full duplex sound channels

I was a bit shocked the first time someone contacted me, I had installed it planning to get a headset not realising my laptop had a built in microphone, they first thing they said was what was I watching on the TV! Obviously it is quite sensitive as well :D

Okay, I figured it worked that way.

I bought an NEC computer back in \'95 and I hooked it up according to the manual, including plugging in the phone line for the modem. Right after booting up the computer \"rang\", and a little window appeared asking me if I would like to answer. It was my cousin, asking if I had gotten my new computer hooked up yet!. I said \"yeah, I\'m talking to it right now\". I didn\'t know it came with \"telephony\" and a built in mike. It was very strange, though, talking to peeps through my monitor.

Not since I found how easy they were to hijack, and besides, no sane person would want to look at me...;)

My wife and I had a webcam hooked up for awhile. Thought it would be fun. If you think the people on here are sick just go into one of those webcam chatrooms. After seeing quite a bit more then we bargained for, we disconected it after three weeks.

There are some very strange people on that Internet thingie. :rolleyes:

What if you were just peer to peer web cam\'ing with your friends? I don\'t think I would ever go into those chatrooms... :eek:

Well yeah I kind of just started. Prices seem cheap and it\'s pretty easy.

It\'s clear and has plenty of functions...

I just wish people could call from their phones... now that\'d be cool
