I am considering looking at some new brushes beyond the ones I already use: http://www.princetonartandbrush.com/acrylic3050.html

It uses a synthetic sable, I was wondering if there was something in between these and a true kolinsky sable (Which are hell of expensive) that I could step up to next.

Rosemary and Co\'s kolinsky sable brushes.

Less than half the price than \'expensive\' sable brushes.

Peace and love...

\'Red sable\' and other descriptions are usually less expensive than what is generally sold as Kolinsky.

There are many cheaper high-end Kolinsky brushes though, you might be thinking only of the most expensive brand(s) and/or from one of the pricier sites.

You\'re in the US, right? Have you tried comparing prices across a few of the major online retailers? Generally the bigger the turnover the cheaper they are, so it\'s often a good idea to buy from the big names.

A lot of people agree that for a great deal of your basic painting you can get away with using synthetics, switching to Kolinsky for details and maybe subtle glazing effects. But some people do paint just with synthetics!

What do you consider expensive? A good sable brush can last years if given decent care - not a bad investment.

Reaper black handled brushes are very good and not as expensive as W&N.

Rosemary - I\'ve heard good things, but have not found any.

@obsidianpainting - you said \"my\" store... Are you opening a brick & mortar or online store? Put in a tag line on your sig.
My understanding is that W&N has a $5k minimum order to get started. That is a LOT of brushes and retarder and flow improver....
