Today I received this e-mail... I must say for me utleast, this is an original attempt.

BUSINESS PROPOSAL

Dear Mountjoy,

I am Barr. Johnson Saarumi, a legal practitioner, I am the personal attorney to Mr.Fredrick Mountjoy. On the 21st of April 2003, my client, his wife and their three children were involved in a car accident. All occupants of the vehicle unfortunately lost there lives.

Since then I have made several enquiries to locate any of my clients extended relatives this has also proved unsuccessful.
I have contacted you to assist in repartrating the money and property left behind by my client before they get confisicated or declared unserviceable by the bank where this huge deposits were lodged particularly, where the deceased had an account valued at about US$13million dollars. The bank has issued me a notice to provide the next of kin.

Since I have been unsuccessfull in locating the relatives for over 2 years now I seek your consent to present you as the next of kin of the deceased so that the proceeds of this account valued at US$13million dollars can be paid to you and then you and me can share the money. I have all necessary legal documents that can be used to back up any claim we may make. All I require is your honest co-operation to enable us see this deal through.

I guarantee that this will be executed under legitimate arrangement that will protect you from any breach of the law. Please get in touch with me by my private email above to enable us discuss further.Thank you very much for your co-operation.

Best regards,
Barr. Johnson Saarumi

Not by e-mail but...

As I own a shop, I am often phoned and reminded by unknown charming persons to pay ( around 300€ ) for ads (in martians publications I suppose) I didn\'t order. They think my name is Smiou (?) and are always shoked that I didn\'t recall agreeing their -can\'t be refused- deal. I\'m still waiting for the horse head in my bed...

What is really sad, is that there are still some people dumb enough to fall for it.

This kind of Scam has been around for a few years now.

I also just got one from the \"wife of the former doctor of Saddam who just happened to get blown up in Madrid and is now in need of money, please will you invest in .... blabh, blah, blah\".
It\'s one of the many scam attempts in the style of the other \"419 scam\" attempts.

If you want to read more about this, hop over to the 419legal forum:

http://www.419legal.org/index.php?sid=45fae7e2b7d67b3e990a009440bebc7e

A lot of information, links and some funny stories by scambaits. I think I already posted the one where one scambait pretended to be under siege from followers of Chthulhu a while ago.

Well I won a few million dollars.. couple of times. I guess I\'m very lucky, especially since they apparantly drew my Email randomly. But I didn\'t answer, thought someone else could need the money more. I\'m such a nice guy. :D

I don\'t get nearly as many 419 e-mails as I used to, maybe that particular scam is trailing off now that it\'s so widely known?

/still a million scams out there

What always shocks me about these things is that both a lawyer and his/her secretary just never seem able to spell \'their\' correctly.

\"there lives\" is so totally wrong.

This email, and/or emails like it, have been bouncing around the internet for years, now. Ignore them. Delete them.

I wish it was an \"original\" attempt. Personally I hate the outright plagurism more than I hate the attempt to steal information by the most lamest trick in the book.

am Johnny Powell an attorney to Christian Eicht Mason, a deceased Immigrant. property magnate who was
based in the U.K., Also referred to as my client. On the 25th of July 2000, my client, his wife and their two Children died in the Air France concord plane crash bound for New York in their plan for a world cruise ...

(I would give more examples, South Africa is commom, as is Saudi Arabia, but alas I tend to delete my spam regularly.)

The best thing to do with this sort of attempt is to string them along and waste their time, I once had a guy on the hook for a good three or four weeks before he twigged I was never answering his requests for banking details

Apparently some guy did this so well they agreed to meet him in person and the arranged location was near a street webcam so he had the pleasure of seeing two guys in suits waiting for him never to show up!

After you\'ve had your fun you can then foward on one or more of the messages to the abuse@ or admin@ email address of the source IP.

What is really sad, is that there are still some people dumb enough to fall for it.

Seems it\'s usually some old person or someone naieve-kindhearted person who gets hit. All it takes is one or two people to fall for it and the person hit\'s the jackpot.

I used to get one from a \'prince\' in Nigeria looking to move a mountain of money. Could he please use my bank number?

Ask Mosch about it. He got a scam-mail once, and played along, telling him he needed money himself, befor he could help him, or something. Was quite hilarious, the guy really seamed to fall for it. Interestring, when you can swindle the swindlers

By the way, another little note on the 419 forum I mentioned. You can also use it to report 419 and other scam mail. Especially new variations are of interest.

The forum was originally set up by somebody from the South African police to fight these scams and now have people from different countries going after these people. Several scam artists have been arrested already and many others have been exposed.

I have heard of one, but never seen it, in which the person claimed to be a representative of the Kingdom of Rohan.
