Ink based paint

I am a warhammer player of 10 years and throughout the whole time I have just used GW brand paints despite their increasing cost. Now that they have discontinued their inks and switched to washes, I tried switching over to the washes but so far I am unhappy with the results compared to inks. S ocan anyone suggest a good alternative brand that is relatively similar to the old GW inks? In particular at the moment I am looking for a blue ink to use on my new Lizardmen army.

Cheers.

I think the Vallejo Game Color inks are very similar to the old GW ink.

Though in my opinion I really like the washes, and I would reccomend giving them another chance.

Coat D\'Arms do Inks and they used to make GW\'s paints (the old flip top paints). If you are in the UK:

If that helps. Washes are VERY differant to inks, they do differant things.

I am in Australia, should have mentioned that.. But I expect I will probably have to order from overseas anyway, I haven\'t found too many brands of miniature paint around here.

Vallejo have looked interesting for a long time, many people say they are better than GW paints and they are cheaper plus have 2-3 times the amount of paint in them.

I know washes are different to inks, and it is probably partly because I haven\'t got used to washes yet, but I haven\'t really got them to do what I want yet, and I certainly can\'t get asurman blue looking any good on blue models. I will definitely use the washes since I bought the whole set, but I think my lizardmen well stick with inks on their skin.

Thanks for the suggestions.

If you\'re looking to different paint ranges Might I reccomend picking up some of the Vallejo Model Color range. I love the more subdued colors and think some of them might work very well on wepaons and such against your blue lizards.

Just a thought.

I have been looking through the sticky thread and posts though, and they seem to suggest Vallejo doesn\'t stick very well, and model is inferior sticking wise to the gaming range. Is this true or will it only be noticable if the painter is an expert (ie: not me)? It is mainly the ink I am after, though if the paints turn out the same quality and are cheaper for more paint I would be crazy not to get them instead of GW.

The Vallejo Game Color range has a bit of a resin mixed into it (I think, I\'m no expert) that does make it more durable for gaming on the table vs. the model color range....

However if the models are being sealed there is zero difference. I use both for my tabletop models and after a shot of sealer there is zero performance difference.

Vallejo Model Color sticks well. No problem there at all. It just is slightly less durable than a few other brands, that\'s all. And as Scott said... with some varnish it\'s no issue at all. If you\'re gaming with the minis you need a varnish anyway, no matter what paints you\'ve used, so in my opinion, the whole thing is pretty much a non-issue.
