Ideas for recreating "Latex"?

I want to recreate the look of black latex on the DE army I am working on right now and I am not really sure how to get it so I was hoping some of the pros on here could give me some ideas.

I want some of their arms and legs to look like patent leather or latex similar to the costume of the main heroine in Underworld. as seen below..

I am thinking I either need to get REALLY good at finding the correct angles for light source and such and use dark grey up to pure white but I have doubts about how that will turn out. I also thought of just using some high gloss sealer on the parts I want to look "shiny".

If we internet painting grognards weren't all so hung up on everything being perfectly blended simulations of shadows and highlights, I'd say "paint them black and gloss coat them". That would be the most realistic looking thing to do... but it'll get you a score of 4 :p

Edit: it's an army? Totally do that. IMO you don't want to try to paint good-looking shiny latex on fifty guys. Just make the rest of their gear matte to emphasize the shiny.

Really push the highlights like toosh did on this one:

Stark highlights, I agree.

But the gloss coat idea may work!

Maybe you should post more pics of Kate Beckinsale, just for study...

I'd go for the gloss on black approach. If the rest of the mini is painted in the regular matte style, small touches of gloss varnish look like an effect, rather than varnish (if you get my meaning.) I did this on my Blight Drone's eye lens (http://www.coolminiornot.com/249761?browseid=2460613) and on the oozy wounds. The wounds dont show up so much in the pic, but you can see the glints in the eye lens quite clearly. It's just gloss varnish on black paint.

Paint one mini with the black and no highlight then apply the high gloss. See how it looks under gaming light then Shine a bright light and see how those highlights play out and decide if you want to copy it or if the gloss gave you enough of the look you wanted.
