Borg posted this response over on the other variation of this thread in General Discussion. I thought it was so well worded and so close to describing how I feel about this whole thing, that I\'d just go ahead and post it here:

Borg on CMON voting:
Since this topic has come up a couple of times recently, let me put in my 2 cents.
Popular people get more votes. Yes, people that link their work from forums and from websites will get more votes. Just like any other product in the World, you are competing against almost 60,000 images for attention, anything that you do to make your work stand out will receive more attention.
Popular miniatures or miniature lines will get more votes. People need to identify with what they are voting on most of the time, so if you are painting whats hot at the moment, ie, GW, Rackham, WM etc, most likely you will get more attention.
Popular techniques will get more votes. If you paint in a style that is currently popular, ie, NMM, rusty metal, freehand, you will get more votes.
There are many other reasons. I have said it before, CMON is what it is - Cool Mini Or Not. What is a cool mini to one might not be to another. You might like the paintjob, the sculpt, the conversion or even the painter, that is all up to you.
If someone gets a lot of votes, great! So a lot of people like something that you don\'t. Well, you might have different taste. If we all like exactly the same thing, then we will all be wearing the same clothes, driving the same car and marrying the same girl Try to be happy for somebody who is getting the appreciation and not be so worried about fowlplay.
To be honest, there are tens of thousands of people on this site, if everyone would just vote, then there is no amount of sniping or inflating that anyone can do anyways... just a thought.
