I have taken the plunge

After years of lurking and not posting here, I've finally put a few of my pieces up.

I'm not a pro, I'm no Roman, or Jeremie but I am okay.

In the circles I move in I'm probarbly the most experienced painter (experienced, not best) and after a couple of years blogging I decided it was time to put up or shut up and see how my models scored here.

Having realised it's not terrible. - 6-7 for most models, I figure it's time to furthert expose my soft underbelly and draw attention to the fact that I've posted, and see what comments they offerings Garner.

So here I am, tackle out as they say, waiting for the familiar sting of the wet towel :)

(let's order them current highest score to lowest :) )

Nice models! I like the 2009 GD model in particular. Good attempt at NMM. I presume you used the WD article by Joe Tomzaski? Wish i could paint him like that :)

Welcome!

I think you're a very solid painter. Some of the stuff seems a bit rough in spots, like color transitions, but you've got a real good sense of color and a very natural look. Keep painting and keep posting!!

Good work. The ork - it looks like the ammo belt is going into the wrong slot. Seems it should be in the one above it.

Thanksyou everyone for the positive comments :)

Wicksy - I did start out with the intention of following the article, and the colours certainly came from there in the main, but partway through I just carried on with my own thing and left the mag behind. for better or worse :)

Supervike- One thing i know I struggle with sometimes is smoothness. I also have issues with contrast sometimes, and I think the two are connected, I look at a model I'm working on and feel I'm not getting the contrast I want to make it pop, so I overcompensate and compromise the smoothness

Shawn - it's entirely possible - I've built plenty of model kits "wrong" in the past :) I just thought - bullets go in the bottom, ejection port is above :) but with the belt fed ideal it is usually a "straight through" arrangement, so you may well be right.

I think I do need to read a lot more of the content of this site, and get a few more models uploaded, It is after all the only way I'm going to improve.

And I do want to improve, so if anyone can suggest some things to try I'd be game. :)

I think the best way to improve, from what I can tell. Is to start a WiP thread, and ask for pointers as you go along. There are some fantastically adept people on here that are willing to share. One does have to be a bit patient with it, however, as the comments don't pour in as fast as they used to....But I'm hoping the winter months bring more of our folks back into the fold.

Welcome:) love the cadian, he's rather expressive i thought, tho i do think that some lighter highlights on the armour and his gun would really do him a favour. Plus get some kill markings or squad symbols or something like that to give him a little more theme and character:) keep it up!

Very solid overall work on the minis. As far as the smoothness goes you've got a great start in the right direction, now it's time to refine your work. As you practice you'll notice your blends become smoother and your details become a lot sharper. I'll definitely be watching the WIP thread.

I personally think the ork with the combi -burna is your strongest. The overall approach to the model with very smooth blends and a strong yellow that doesn't overdoo the model really helps define it. Cheers all around, but with that I would say the space wolf is your weakest. The reason being the NMM's are not all that smooth and it really detracts from the overall tone of the model.

Looking good, your paints and layers look smooth.

that said, i do have some constructive critisism:
pretty much all the mini's have nice smooth transitions, but most of the colors still look a bit plain, you might try using a bit more contrast.
second, some of the straight lines and freehand detail (like the check on the ork) don't look as sharp or crisp as the rest of the model.

Keep up the good work, and keep practicing and trying new things.
