I challenge all painters

 My challenge is this. I would like to see an entire minature painted as if it were made of a gem. Take your pick, emerald, ruby, sapphire, etc... Anyone up to it?:flip::bouncy::flip:

Not while I have a GT army to ignore! Even if I never get it done it\'s a fine excuse for not doing anything else ;)

i would rather lick my toilet bowl clean. something that hard taxes my brain too much like what if desks were made for backwards knees. although it would be cool to see it done. i can think of that crystal guy from darg age games.....

Nice idea for a challenge...but...

What would be the point? Other than the Dark Age Mini(s) Mr Zombie referred to, it would be a pointless exercise. :p

Paint a mini as if it were made of: fruit, wood, coal etc. There would have to be a reason other than just the challenge...:flip

Point taken

I understand that it may be a frightening task to take on, but the point is for practice. So many angles would make a good show of imagination. Sandra Garrity has a mini on the reaper site of a wizardess covered in a long robe and cape that would be beautiful in ruby. I think it would make a nice conversation piece in a wizards lab or garden. I love the idea of doing her in wood though... What if we revise the challenge to paint them as a gem. Maybe the challenge could be paint them as any organic substance on earth. Gems, wood, coal, water, metal (though I think that only NMM would be difficult enough to be a challenge). How\'s that? ???

man, maybe its my lak of imagination that i think the prob is. i just cant picture it to evenn begin to paint it. maybe if i found a sculpted jewelry or something it might work out in my head and transform. oh also i just thought of that crystal giant ogre guy that... sivous or errrmmmm.... ah hell, someone painted, sorry, im shot today. i think it would be doable with some good gem refs etc with large angles and also smooth gems with lots of light and depth tossing through them.

If you could find silver surfer and then do it all NMM that would be neat. Maybe a Colosus (?) figure all NMM. Those would be worth the effort since they are both metal anyway.

It\'s an interesting challenge but as Finn & others pointed out int\'s not going to appeal to too many due to the complexity of the work involved.
I\'m now using NMM and for a recent sword blade it took me over 2&1/2 hours. The concept of doing a whole mini as a gem, Well sorry but that would have to be waaaay down on my priority list .

ha again she was faster :)

Now this challenge is just too cool. So i could not resist to try it out.

I have used Arnise from reaper ... maybe not the best choice since this mini is just superdetailed, but it looks like it is possible to paint her like beeing made of smaragd or jade.

Later on she will get a glossy varnish as a finish to get the real \"gem-look\".

When I first posted this challenge I was excited, I thought that the combined talent of these painters would take up the challenge and astound everyone. After the first few replys I was utterly sick with myself.:|~ I truly thought this would set imaginations into action. But I felt like an idiot. Then there was a reply that was constructive and lifted me up a bit to think someone put thought into the original idea. Blah blah blah.. :moon: Then came goatman, (the genius!) and I find myself overwhelmed by the beauty of his work. Awestruck, thats all I can say. I loved this mini since it was a green, and you have made it into a work of art.:D You transcended my original hopes, THank you.

ah i have to thank you for the nice idea of this challenge. I always like to try something new.

Btw. the painted area was done in 30-45 min .... maybe this sounds strange, but thx to the fact, that only 3 colours are needed to paint a mini in this gem-like style, it is painted quite fast.

Now i´m searching for a nice sorcerer from the reaper-line with a raised arm or so, who can stand behind arnise, tapping her on the shoulder and turning her into smaragd. So with a transition from her living body into the gem. Any ideas which sorcerer from Reaper could fit that image?
I searched half their cataloque, but since nothing is arranged by categorys this is a bit timeconsuming and unsatisfying (so many nice minis)

Well it does, but for most people around here it\'s a very difficult task. Maybe not on the site, but here on the forums, we\'re average :)

i swear i have to wear a rubber helmet anytime i visit. lummps formed after seeing goatmans schtuff. random challenges are okay but getting the top 50 to do em is a bit hard since they do this for a living most of the time. results after the past top 100 im afraid you wouldnt want to see.

i need a border for my avatar damnit.

Sorry it took so long, I\'ve a couple of mini\'s I\'m working on to sell so I haven\'t even chose my own mini to transform. I was thinking about Reaper\'s Greycloud 2065. I like the wings, and I think the open area of the belly is still a challenge, oh well.

As far as a sorcerer from Reaper, I loked at every mini they have and have a list of possibilities.
9.) Dragothe the Defiler 2367: His hand is raised but he looks like he\'s lost his pet... \"He\'s this tall...\"
8.)Arilynn, Water Elementalist Sorceress 2563: She\'s bent over a bit more and the hands in the wrong direction, but that could be changed.
7.)Krupp the Heritic 2009: Again the hands in the wrong direction
6.)Drake Whiteraven Heroic Wizard 2343: Hand may not be high enough.
5.)Darius the Blue 2072: Again, not sure about how high the hand is. It appears that his hand is at his shoulder?
4.)Gossamer, Air Elementalist Sorceress 2562: Not tapping the shoulder but appears to be projecting well enough to get it.
3.)Bria, Female Necromancer 2504: Definite \"bad guy\" look.
2.)Laurana, Sorceress 2621: I KNOW the hand is high enough here!
1.)Vaaron Fire Elementalist Sorcerer 2561: The hand looks high enough, he looks like he\'s casting a spell because his mouths open, and the crystal on the staff might bring the two mini\'s a uniform feel. (My favorite!) :D Hope this helps.
