How to start army

Cake or Death?
So I finally took the plunge into Warhammer Fantasy, and bought the battle for skull pass boxed set. I\'m looking forward to the dwarves, but there are three full regiments of night goblins. Any ideas on how to start tackling this major project? I\'ve never had so much to paint at once.

I\'m thinking of only assembling one regiment at a time and then painting it, before I go and do more. Does this work, or is it better to assemble everything and then paint it all at once?

Now, you\'re probably be better off getting advice from someone like mattsterbenz. It depends on how soon you\'re wanting to start playing the game and if you\'re going to be part of a club and if they have rules on if they need the armies to be painted or not.

Now I\'m way too slow a painter so my armies are put together and will be painted if and when I get round to them. However, I think doing them unit by inti will probably be better as you may get bored with prepping all of them at once.

That video is fantastic. Barstool prophet is my hero this week. He should post a text tutorial on the subject here in the articles section. lol

I can\'t believe someone bothered to dig that up from that other thread... I think I\'m flattered. Either that, or I\'m concerned for Naukhel\'s mental health.

An article? I don\'t know if I could manage an article on that particular subject. How much is there, honestly, to be said about picking up a brush?

Someone rang? :D

What kind of quality are you looking for here? A goblin army with one highlight on each color tends to look great for how fast it is. If you\'re looking for something a bit prettier, it will take a while.

Here\'s the basics:

Assembly line painting. Paint maybe 10 figures at a time. Paint all of one area at once on the figures (i.e. boots). By the time you get to the last model, the first one will be dry and you can start applying highlights.

Mix up a spare pot of intermediate colors if you will be adding several layers of highlights. For example, on skin you could use a basecoat of Snot Green. Mix up a pot of 50/50 Snot Green and Goblin Green. Use that for your first highlight, followed by GG on it\'s own. (Do this trick for as many colors as you\'ll find helpful).

Prime black. You won\'t regret it! (Unless you are painting the models entirely yellow or white). My step-by-step ork article shows how to speed-paint from a black undercoat. Might find that helpful.

Hope this helps! Let me know if I can help you further.

I was just about to say, assembly line. line up a regiment, and do all the base cotes, and subsequent layers at the same time. Goes much quicker that way.

Video doesn\'t work. I\'m left handed.

Goblin army:
1. Assemble gobos (fix moldlines, etc.

2. Prime with decent primer.

3. Basecoat with GoboGreen thinned in cheap airbrush or Preval Sprayer.

@airhead: Hold a mirror up to your monitor, and watch the video in reflection. I think you\'ll find it works for you sinister folk, as well.

@BP: You don\'t need to worry about my mental health. I never had any.

I dug the video up because I thought it was clever, and seemed like a good
thing to stick into the thread.

Well, I got the box last night and started rummaging through it. I decided that I\'m going to assemble it all first so that I can start playing. When I get time I\'ll go after a half regiment at a go; I like the idea of finishing 10 models in an hour or two rather than having 20 half-painted figs.

Thanks for the advice (and the humor :)) folks - I appreciate it.
